A couple of my buddys have taken their trucks there for the stretch. They love the new combination!

Now would be a good time to do it as our dollar is so strong. If you are a bit sneaky you might not even have to pay GST tax on the job. Just buy some souveniers and say you went on a holiday. lol Even if you do have to pay...write it off as a business expense! You do not have to pay duty on goods manufactured in the USA...just GST.

Good luck with your truck!

Did Precision Bodyline keep thier old box? I assummed that they would at that price!

I was thinking the same thing but I was guessing on the cheap side..freaking painters are always more $$$ than I think it should be!

To me I think the only way its cheaper to do yourself is if you find a smoken deal on a used box the same color as your truck..even then I dont know?
say u got a box @
$2000
kit @1400 plus shipping
then cut weld, sware rewire, brake lines etc and make new drive shaft all for less than $2100

Pretty tough to do yourself let along pay someone here to install it.
But @$5500 plus hotel, beer etc that adds in as well. I like the part were they warrenty thier work...as long as the exsist I guess!

For anyone that is considering doing this in the US You do not want to tell the border guards you have had any work done to your truck or will have to import it like you had just bought it and it has been modified IE a frame stretch the truck will not pass the inspection.

Repairs or alterations to your vehicle/ vessel/aircraft

If you intend to have repairs or alterations made to your vehicle/vessel/aircraft outside Canada, check with the CBSA for information before you leave. Under customs legislation, the CBSA can no longer consider your vehicle, vessel or aircraft to be Canadian-made if you increase its value, improve its condition or have it modified outside Canada. As a result, you may have to pay duty and the goods and services tax (GST) or harmonized sales tax (HST) on the entire value of the vehicle/vessel/aircraft when you bring it back.

No duty will apply to the value of the repairs or alterations made to your vehicle/vessel/aircraft in the United States, Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, Israel or another Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement beneficiary when it is re-imported into Canada; however, the GST/HST will apply.

Emergency repairs can be made to your vehicle/vessel/aircraft while you are travelling outside the country to ensure your safe return to Canada. However, to be eligible for this special provision, be sure to declare the value of all repairs and replacement parts when you return to Canada with the vehicle.

Transport Canada also has requirements for vehicles that are extensively modified. For more information, contact Transport Canada's Registrar of Imported Vehicles at 1-888-848-8240.

I have had no problems getting mods done to my truck in the states and crossing the border. They were mainly concerned that they get their 5% GST on the goods and services that I purchased. They did ask me several times if my purchases were for resale. If you are bringing in materials or goods for resale then they want you to have an import licence (might be the wrong term) which I have but that is another story.

If I would have not had to pay my GST for some reason, I would not have lost sleep over it. I do not have a problem supporting my country, but I DO have a problem with the way they seem to lie to us and then WASTE our precious funds. This is the number one reason why more of us should start our own companys...then we can WASTE funds on our own projects instead of handing our hard earned money to them to waste on CRAP! rant off lol

NO way would i leave it up to some goverment stooge to decied whether or not the mods/alterations done to my truck is now extensively modified or not. There is a big difference in pay 5% GST and have to import your truck from scratch.

If your truck looks stock once the mods are done I would not say a word. This also depends on which border crossing you use. Vancouvers crossing are to busy for them to care to much for the staff levels they have but the Coutts crossing is busy but they seem to have way more staff and tend to run you through the mill over everything.

Here is the info from innovative customs cut and paste:

The cost of the conversion is $6500 (including bed, paint and liner). The
cost is $4000 without us doing anything with the bed (you supply or for
flatbed). The conversion takes 3 days to complete. All work is inspected,
certified and warrantied. Does not void factory warranty. I have attached
a spec sheet with some more info. Let me know if you have any more
questions.
Thanks, Clint

I tried to attach the spec sheet but its a pdf, and Im weetarded when it comes to that stuff. If anyone wants it send me your email and Ill forward it to ya.
