Question for all the heavy duty mechanics out there???

If you were starting out buying all new tools what brand would you buy?
I know it would be nice for everyone to have all Snap-on but the reallity is you still buy as much tools as you need for the best price.

HAND TOOLS
1 - Snap-on/Mac
2 - Proto
3 - Craftmans
4 - Procor
5 - Ultra Pro
6 - Others

POWER TOOLS
1 - Snap-on/Mac
2 - Chicago Phumatics
3 - Others

What would be a rough total cost of your standard mechanics tools & box be worth?

Where would be the best deals and can any one buy wholesale?

Have a Snap-on base cabinet and some hand tools but need to purchase alot, more tools...but currently paying retail/street prices....ouch.

If you have specific advice please PM me.

Thanks

The first time around I just bought the cheaper stuff and slowly replaced it with the good stuff. I like IR air tools myself over the snap-on. As for a price it is hard to say with out knowing what part of the trade you will be in.
One thing though is the canadian tire brand wrenches are very good almost as good as snap-on best of all there dirt cheap.

All Craftsman tools, buy them at there year end sales if you can wait...usually 30-50%off. If you don't mind used tools you get some great deals in the bargin finder.I don't buy the high end tools as I don't do enough wrenching to wear out tools.....only Doos and Dodges in my garage:rolling::rollinglaugh::thumbsup2:

I agree with snochuk on the tools item only :D, I buy craftsman at Sears when there on sale you get good tools for the money. And there warentee is great. I occassionaly buy the compact socket sets from Canadian tire when there on sale a $170 set for $95.00. I cant seem to keep them though, the last set was stolen from my truck in Valmount and It was still in the plastic wrap.
