MCXpress 190hp turbo kit vs. MPI 180hp turbo kit

Anyone want to give me some insight and opinions on turboing a 2012 Nytro? I am looking at putting one in and do not want to spend over $10,000 for a 240 or 270hp kit...

Is a 180 MPI or 190 MCXpress kit enough power or should I say screw it and go with a 240hp kit? Which brand and kit is better for power and reliablility? Throw me some pro's and con's of each brand of turbo and why you would go with a 180 or 190 or even a 240 or 270 kit

Any information and input would be greatly appreciated...

I have only ever rode a 240 mcx kit but it was very reliable and relatively smooth power. More than enough for a typical rider but the 190 kits would be as well I bet. Save enough to change skid to racers edge or kmod or timbersled depending on which one appeals. Then change the front end to skinz or zbros. Your pushing your 10k mark but it'll be close. Oh and a dime or two for clutching. Almost forgot. All this of course depends on ridin style though.....

I have the 190 MCX kit and I think its great. You will need to upgrade your track and drivers and go for a zbroz fromt end. Then it is really great.

As for me, I am going away from the 190 and upgrading to the 270, after riding one this weekend. It was even better!!! Totally ridable and more fun IMO. The 270 has a bit more lag, but it still is fine. Everything depends on what you get used to...

The other question is what are other guys in your group riding? A high boost turbo is significantly more power and much more capable in the deep pow. If you are a skilled rider, you can boondock on any of the above.

That is a excellent point. Once you go big horse and don't have anyone else the same in your ridin group it'll get awkward. My nypex is near complete and I only have a couple buds to ride with where we can use them to full potential. I also have a Doo for ridin with the others. Makes the days more fun IMO.


Ps-don't take post wrong way. You can boondock,tree ride, technical whatever the ch!t outta a nytro. Just way more learning curve to make it not tiring but once ya got it figured its blissful. Lol

Thanks guys... ya I already have the skinz front end, timbersled skid, as well as many modifications; dropped a lot of weight and now it handles like I hoped it would (like a pro or summit). It handles great in the trees and that's where I like to hangout mostly and don't like to climb in chutes but I do like to be able to boondock through and up anything. It is also a 153 so not sure if a 240+ will be necessary? The reason I went with a nytro is to turbo it and I am definitely worried that I will throw a 180 or 190 kit on it and then a year later want to switch it out for more power.

And none of the guys I ride with have a boosted sled... so that is a very good point, although every group needs a trailer breaker haha.

With the 190 kit you can always upgrade in the future I believe but with the MPI 180 thats all you got with out buying a complete new kit.

Both kit are excellent, MPI is also upgradable just like MCX is. The one thing I like about the MPI you don't have to do any welding on you header to instal versus MCX you do. When doing the upgrade on the MPI you also have 2 or 3 stage in upgrade just as well like MCX. MPI is a bit more tuneable ratter than, you don't touch it and leave it as it is like MCX. MCX hold a reputation like no other as far as power, reliability and fit and finish. MPI is still new in the turbo world but not new in the BOOST industrie, there product are second to nun in fit, finish, performance and reliability. If you have more question on MPI or MCX give Darren Boychuck at E&S motorcycle in Fort Saskatchewan he will tell you all about these 2 wonderful kit. I own a MPI 180 kit on my Nytro and part of a MCX on my Nypex... I love them both.

MPI kit is upgradable as well, 180, 230, 270 and one more that haven't been dyno yet as far I know that blows the 270 out of its league.... All on pump gas ;)

I have a 2008 Nytro with MPI 180 kit, and a few other upgrades like track and Skinz airframe boards. This sled is amazing from where it started, and the MPI kit does not skip a beat (2nd season on it). I ride with another guy who has the MCX 180 kit and sleds are comparable, one thing we did find is the boost recovers faster on the MPI kit which may come in handy when boondocking as you are on and off the throttle. Most of the Yamaha guys will tell you the boost is addicting, and i myself am looking at doing the 230 upgrade to my kit and streching it out to a 162". But like the other guys said it depends who you ride with and how you ride, my 180 kit is going where everyone else in our group is going and still fun to ride in the trees.

Hhmmmm. You mention upgrading the turbo from a 180 to more boost in the future. I would recommend you look at the costs associated with going from the 190 to the 240/270. It will be cheaper to just start with the higher boost and be done with it. I'd probably recommend the 240 to start with. That will put you on similar footing with other boosted sleds (boondocker 2t pros/xm and so on). I find that the MCX 190 is pretty much comprable with the new 800s that are out now. Generally speaking, the 180/190 turbo equals you out with the new 800s from a horsepower to weight ratio, not withstanding you get the benefit of 4t torque!!!

To upgrade later, which is exactly what I am looking at now is going to cost an additional $4000+, which seems kind of wasteful, knowing what I know after riding the 180 MCX for the past 3 seasons. I say, go for the bigger boost!!!!!

Very good point and thank you!!! You now have me thinking and leaning towards getting a 240hp... I take it you are upgrading to a 240hp mcxpress kit?

Does anyone have opinons or thoughts on which turbo kit is better between a mcxpress 240/270 or mpi 240/270?

yep. mcx is solid and the preference with the boys i ride with. I'm going 270.
