Hey guys, I have a 2015 outlander xt done up with the usual mud mods and such, about 1100km on it. I'm looking at possibly
Trading a guy straight across for a 2013 maverick base model. Has 1300km and 31" outlaws, speakers and a snorkel. My first question is it a fair trade and secondly I need help deciding. I like the quad for going to the bush and mudding and stuff but it seems I never get to the bush and 95% of my miles come from grid roads going to my shack and back. Doubling with the gf sucks! How are these things in mud? Obviously not as good as the outlander I'm assuming? And how do the mavericks steer without power steering? Thanks!

The maverick will eat the outlander in the mud. Many have switched to the sxs for a reason. I have an outlander max and rarely ride it now. Power steering is very important to me.

Need power steering
Doors I like dragon fire
Stronger tie rod ends
Cr race gusset
Snorkels

There were a lot of improvements since the early mavs .... They are a great machine , but I know the older ones had a few issues.
As far as the trade goes, it's more about wether you want a SXS or quad. If there are two of you ,SXS no questions asked ....

Once you go sxs you won't go back. Not so much if you are by your self all the time but if you double lots like me you never look back. I won't go back to doubling on a quad. You can buy aftermarket power steering kits pretty cheap

Have to agree once you go SxS you never go back. Straight across trade depends on a few factors though. You will want power steering on the Mav, and as mentioned can be added through the aftermarket.
Turning the 31" Laws, you're gonna want some clutch work done. Clutching on base Mav's are junk. They only started to get it right with the '15+ Turbo models.
You'll wanna look into either a QSC Rev-X or Rage 3p Primary are the latest out there, along with a STM secondary. CVTech works as well and can probably be found for cheaper. Guesset kit and upgraded tie rods are an absolute must. I prefer 4 point harnesses as well. Cab heat can be a problem but wrapping the ehader usually takes care of a lot of it.
Lots of good info over on the Maverick forums. Research takes time but may save you a lot of headaches. Belt temp gauge can save you a lot of time and money as well.

Different strokes for different folks. Doubling does suck, especially on a 1-up quad. I know a couple of people who still prefer doubling on their 2-up quads to taking out their side by sides.

IMO, which is better in the mud is very debatable and I'd also argue that regular mudding in a side by side is more $$$ in terms of maintenance and repair.

If you have a chance to take out the Maverik with your gf, do so and decide for yourself. ...besides it certainly couldn't hurt to test drive it to see what kind of condition it's in.

Yah the mudding is debatable! All depends on what kind of mud. Holes with a harder bottom the sxs all day, the extra weight seem to help it find traction. Skeg the quad for sure.

Another thing to think about is how you are planning to haul the sxs. You can't just throw a Mac in the box of a pickup, you need a trailer!

On the Mav frame of you catch the front tires just right you can kink the frame ...big $$$$$!
these gussets will protect that from happening .... Cheap insurance .150$

Yes a sxs can cost money.

But the correct model can save you money also.

A few of us switched to Mavericks so ask all the questions you like.

I will be checking it over thoroughly and also doing a vin search at the bank and brp dealer to show me the history. Anything with the drive train in this year of Mav? Clutches? Anything you guys can think of I should look for?

I would be very nervous of the whole machine & keeping in mind that it had 31 laws on it . It's been a mudder and that's hard on every part... IMO Not knocking it , but that is a reasonable deduction. There fore it has had / or will Ned clutch work. Has it ever been drowned ... Well you know the drill .
Personally , I would sell the outy & buy a bit newer Mav , with a cleaner history. If you want a SXS ... If you just feel this is a great deal / that's another matter.

There are a ton of nice used xmr mavs around & already set up . By the time you add P/S and what not , is it worth it ...?

For me not wanting to spend any money on getting a side by side.
