Nice work there! A few years ago I was modifying our 98 RMK Wedge, but I did not go near as far as you did with your sled! I stopped only because I bought a friends modded 02 Edge for an excellent price. The Edge cost me less than half of what I had into my Wedge and it ate up everything I had built up to that point.

I still love riding our 98 RMK though it is a bit too loud for my wife's taste. I was very lucky to find a LRM (Larry Rugland Motorsports) engine and pipe setup for it. All I can say is that she is very fast for a 700! The only problem is that it is extremely loud!

Have you ever ran Lectron carbs before these? I have heard that they are not too hard to tune...probably similar to Crank Shop carbs. My UB950 has 52mm Crank Shop carbs running 720 main jets...and unfortunately had to run pods also. I hate running pods in deep powder snow, but the airbox just would not fit the new engine combination properly. Hopefully your new combination will not ice up the pods as bad as mine did.

How much compression are you running in your new engine combination? I have 2 sets of domes cut for my 950 and 2 sets of spares so I can cut them to what ever compression ratio I want/need. I am running a 15 to 1 set now but I have tried some 17.5 to 1s in the engine. My dream machine would be to install some low compression domes and add a turbo for more torque but not to add a lot more Hp. I have to run AV gas or race fuels in it the way it sits which is fun but gets old real fast trying to find good fuel for it sometimes. Making it run on pump gas again is not as simple as just dropping compression in a fully ported engine unfortunately. I am sure that you have though about these issues at great length though.

I wish you well with your latest buildup! Good luck sledding this season!

Only have the one set of domes and the compression worked out to 13.7-1. Going to run 50/50 to start and work it out from there. I'm new to Lectrons but i'm not afraid to give them a try, plus i connected a Vari-flow to them. The needle i'm using is more for lower altitude 5-2xl. Tom (Mots)and Neal (NPP)both like the Price motors and say they make some really nice HP. So we'll see. Stuck in neutral right now, just waiting on a couple small things to get going.

That sounds like a very nice combination to start with. She will still make lots of torque and you might be able to run it on pump gas still. I have run Price cylinders that were setup for all around use. Never had any problems with the engine. It ran a lot stronger than stock and performed very well at low rpm as well as high rpm.

Are you waiting for your pipes to be ceramic coated? Also, How loud will your new combination be do you think? Are the stingers muffled?

Good luck with your buildup!

Well it took me a lot longer than i anticipated folks but it's pretty well done! Just dropped it back off at Neils to get dyno'd. I'm happy with the make over, i think it looks really good for an old hotrod. And sounds mean. Now if it makes over 200hp i'll be really happy!

That is a wicked buildup! I bet she crackles really nice! Are you going to get your nice new pipes coated? When are going to get her out on some snow?
Good luck with your sled!

It sounds awesome! And that was just loading it on and off the trailer. I will be getting Impact to coat them, but i'm trying to get to McBride for next week so i may have to give them a hi-temp paint coat just for the time being. I'll post the dyno sheet when it gets done, hoping for 200 but i'll be happy with anything close to that range. The chassis is very light so it should clip along pretty good.

Did you build it for a wide torque band or just high hp? Either way I am sure you did your homework and it will deliver your goals.

Good luck with your new creation!

I will get something up soon. Just picked it up from Neils so i have to bleed out the cooling system and wipe up the engine bay. But that won't happen for a day or so. But on a GREAT note the engine was dyno'd at NPP and i'm very happy with the results.
223hp@9100rpm and 130ft.lb Tq at 8700rpm, Neil didn't have paper in his printer so he will email me the results and i'll post them then. Higgins.

Great to hear that she went beyond your expectations! Does Neil tune the machine while it is on the dyno to get those numbers or will you still have to test and tune quite a bit out in the hills? Can't wait to see some videos of your new sled also!

Good luck with your ride! :wtg:

Well folks for those of you who followed this i have to say this could have been quite a ride! I took the beast out to a buds to do some testing and tuning. It pulled very strong. Arm stretching stong! Then after a small 10 min ride was heading back to the shop doing around 4500rpm or 15-20 mph and i heard/felt a wack like a belt had blown. Pulled tether and checked belt......it's ok! UH-OH.....turn crank.....jammed. "F%$!"...this ain't good. Antifreeze on snow. Heartbroken!!! Get it home have a quick peak sure enough shrapnel in the bellypan/bulkhead area. Go into depression for a week or two!! LOL!
Now disassembling to assess damage and install beater motor. WOW.....BOOM isn't the word for it!!! Already have most of my money saved for a Pro-8 but i'll wait for next year to grab one.

That sucks! I hate it when things like that happen. I wonder what caused the failure? I sure hope that your luck improves! Very sad to see this happen to your latest creation.
