So I am still not exacly sure where this is. I have heard Mileage and Chappell. We are heading out to Valemount in 2 weeks and were talking about Chappel and checking it out. We will have 3 very experienced riders and 3 not so experienced. The 3 experienced have never been to Chappell so unfamiliar with that area. Might stick with Clemina and Allan Cr.

dont be worried about it go when it is light and find the place as said it is on your right side once u get to the top of the trail, very easy to find. Be aware of this so u know where it is, chappell is a good place to ride..

Here are some Google Earth pictures of the area.

Pics 1-3 show the ridge that everyone is talking about. If you go there with any visibility, you will notice the ridge right away.

Pics 4-5 show the general area.

Pic 6 shows the ridge that is on the southwest side of the area, another big drop off.

I have never had any concerns when we have been in Chappel before. Take your time, and you will be fine.

I have 530-HCX, from map-source (included disk with your rino), Load the maps into it, then in view tab at the bottom, it gives you the option to view in google earth. From there you can save your maps to view later in "GE", as a .kml or .kmz files. Valemount maps are available in this format at their site.

Cheers

You shouldn't have to upgrade Google Maps.

I use Mapsource. Those tracks are from my old Etrex Legend. I save the tracks and waypoints in Mapsource, edit them, and save them using the ".mps" format. Then, I open Google Earth, and click "File, Open", and change the file type to "GPS (.gpx, .loc, .mps)", and open the file I created in Mapsource. This will put the waypoints and tracks into the "temporary places", and then you right click on them and add them to "My Saved Places". That way, they are all there when you open Google Earth every time.

I have a "Sledding Master.mps" file that I always add tracks and waypoints to, and then open that one in Google Earth and delete the old one. I find it easier that way than adding multiple files.

two guys from Hinton went over this appx 20 years ago. It was in a white out.
The one guy landed with his sled and broke his back. Unfortunatly he was permantly disabled from it.
The other guy landed away from his machine and walked away.
Another guy went over the next year and walked away.
we watched the helicopter pick up the machine the next day. He hooked it from the air through the back bumper sticking out and off he went. SCARY stuff
