if everyone on this site, went to the dealer of their choice and asked why there is a 40% price difference between Canada and the USA, the dealers may voice their concerns to the manufactures and they may lower the price of quads, sleds etc. if the dealer feels like he may be losing sales, he will be the one calling skidoo, polaris, ac. things may change.
i for one am going to visit every dealer that i can and let them know that unless the price difference changes, i have no intention of buying canadian equipment. it may not help but something has to be done.

40 % +/- price difference, our dollar is par, Canada rebate $800 to $1000/ USA $600 rebate, sled sales are almost par in Canada & USA. nafta has no trade or taxation barriers in North America.

Please justify the difference in price.

ok, yes we get this every year, and unfortunately the people who read it dont pass it on.. heres the skinny on our dollar....vs us dollar...

Yes right now...today our dollar is equal to the us... what we as dealers are facing is this..

-the parts and pieces required to build these units are purchased 6 months or more in advance. there for there is a difference in price.....- ie our dollar was not at par 6 months ago.

- the manufacturers do make adjustments. ie rebates... cash back...etc..
some are quicker to respond than others....

- even with our dollar at par there is still a difference. as the manufacturer's are charged import tax, and duty as well as the frieight charges to get the product to our wonderfully vast country...

- as for going to your dealer and complaining, it is far more effective for the customer to contact the manufacturer and complain..As the manufacturer is more apt to listen than to the dealer..which sucks as in my case as a dealer for any one of the three manufacturers i deal with i buy inexcess of 50-300 units per year which far surpases any current customer purchases, Yet our complaints usually fall of deaf ears.as they run into the same thing from the head office...

- i guess the long and the short of it is this. Buy when you get the best deal and service from a dealer you. We dont get rich sell n the toys but do appreciate your business.

-regardless of the industry your employed in there is always competitors and always a difference in price. We as recreational dealers are no different from you if everyone shops out of town or province or country it affects the job stability of the staff.. So if you get areally good deal on a xzy brand and then there are fewer(or no) xyz dealers, in your area then who wins..

-we unfortunately as dealers can t set the price, its based on market strength, and what other dealers are selling for... we can lose money on the units , although sometimes do.

I as a consumer feel your frustration, as a dealer i understand it, but we are limited to our actions... At T&T we strive to make it up in customer service and are as competitive as possible... at 47 i have many years left before retirement..so im in it for the long haul...

As a customer you have the choice. your in the drivers seat. and you do whats best for you.

My thought is this. if i dont support my fellow canadians then who will. I need service not just the product so i do alot of research and consider, service, price and longterm effects before i buy. Do i want to go out of town
everytime i want things serviced...maybe it doesnt matter... or maybe it does...

Very well said Terry, I couldn't agree more. I just hope consumer's relize all they are doing is hurting our Canadain market/economy by purchasing south of the border, and like Terry said find a dealer who's price is fair, and service is good and stick with em!!!!

johni t you are right, just looking at the sled initial cost, not counting travel etc. but Utah, Idaho sure is pretty, lots of snow, nice riding etc. combined everthing your costs keep going down. gas is less, food is less, rooms, you'll also pay less GST damn government.



thats the way to do it,, make a holiday of it then that expense is a wash good thinking....:beer:

as i've stated no problem with the dealer, manufacturer is another story. dealers can only work with what they are given. i visit my local dealer in the winter almost weekly as i seem to bend a few parts. parts are like 50% more also, but i want to ride so if they are instock i'll buy, otherwise i phone around and have shipped asap. stocking parts for every sled is also not possible, but you know what sleds are being sold, not to carry clutch parts, or high wear items is another story. i want it now, i need it now, not in 10 days, anyway that is another issue for another time. i have started to see some price drop in the market place AC for one, the rest will follow suit i'm sure.

can only hope for some relief. thanxs.

kudos to tt pwersports for explaining what i can't understand. just frustrated i guess. a guy starts to look around when things start to tighten up. see it in my business, a lot of phoning around for price and availability, i do it also but service and 1st rate work go a long way. word of mouth is always the best advertising.

BRP charges $250 for a complaince letter??!! :eek: That there is a pure cash grab. They are punishing you.

Is there duty on sleds built in the US? I don't usually pay duty on anything that is assembled/built in the US, just GST.

From what I am hearing from my Eastern counterparts, the economy is hitting dealers hard.....and it's getting worse. They are very eager to deal.

I don't know about sled prices, but I saved about $11,000 on my truck after expenses. Neighbour just picked up an Escalade truck and saved $15,000 after all expenses. I also posted a while back about the over $5000 my Eastern friend saved on a new Prowler.

Its a tough call but it is always good to support your local dealer(If you are luckey enough to have a good one). If you dont support them they wont be around for the quick fixes and acessories. Still a big pill to swallow when certain bolt on parts are just about 1/2 price in the U.S.A. I work hard for my $$$ (hardly at all lately, fawkin oil patch) so If I can stretch the repair $$:)mad:) thats more $$ for trips:d:beer::d:beer::d:d:beer::beer::beer::beer:........Just 1 guys oppinion;)

I agree to point, the funny thing is everyone says gas, parts, vehicles were bought 6 months ago when the dollar was lower, in 6 months from now are we going to see a reduction for being on par?!?! It would be a first.....

I will pay a bit more for local if it's good service. I have spent 20k in the last 2 years on my truck 99% from the states, because of price and places here not knowing how to treat people. I understand it costs more in canada, but I will not put up with 30%-50% more price AND people being douchbags.

How many complaints do you hear about bad dealers? Why give them business if you can save money and not support them?

I know it doesn't apply to all dealers, but I am sick of people who can't run a business and I will gladly pay a lot more for service.

Here's my big gripe. If I can buy something from the states, pay for a freight company to bring it to my door everything done and STILL save 10-15% off canadian, SOMEONE in canada is gouging.....don't care who but I know I won't be buying from them.

I just wish T & T sold Polaris! Get rid of the green and go red LOL. It's all up to each individual to decide what and where to buy! If the CDN dollar stays high, it usually means our big brother is in trouble, and that is troubling to us all!

Here's the greatest question. Why is heavy trucks and equipment prices so much more competitive? Most equipment isn't worth buying in the states anymore, because the prices are so close. I am doing a semi conversion on my truck. 22.5 rims are the EXACT same price here as in the states? Tires same thing......Why can kal tire sell me a commercial tire for the same as usa price, but not a regular truck tire? :rolleyes:

O yea that's right, companies and truckers won't take it like most consumers will and would go down to the states in a heartbeat if the prices weren't competitive :rant:

Yeah, we heard that one in 2007 when our dollar went above par so what happened to prices in 2008? Prices did not reflect that so I call BS on this point.

BRP is a Canadian company so how does this make any sense?

Funny thing when I complained to the manufacturer they told me to contact the dealer. Sounds like a government operation.

As a customer our options are pretty limited. The manufacturers have instructed their dealers in the US not to sell new units to Canadians if it is for export to Canada. Also they will not honor their warranty in Canada. Hardly seems to me that we are in the drivers seat.

I get a kick out of guys trying to explain why we should pay more. BRP shops the world to see who can make the componets the cheapest. Parts from Austria, France, Turkey, mexico, Vietnam, China. Isn't it hypocritcal for BRP to say we need to pay more and buy here when they don't?

upon hit the internet it seems like prices are coming down, cat has really dropped price, brp has also within 13% which is better, within $1800. as a consumer we need to voice our opinion, the more complaining the better. someday it will be fair maybe,

But anyways, I'm surprised that nobody has brought up the subsidies that the CDN government gives to Bombardier, who in turn screws us. Pretty much enough for me to not buy from them. And you know if the bastards weren't from Quebec they wouldn't see a dime of federal money.

Another thing is all you Alta guys be very happy you do not have PST.Here in BC we have to pay 12% tax [soon to be HST]So on a typical 12K toy thats a huge saving.I just hear some rebate advertising on the radio today from Yamaha on all their toys.BRp has started to fall in line with Yamaha and AC and started to lower prices[rebates]Next should be Polaris as I want to purchase an new Pro RMK but will definatly be waiting as I refust to pay MSRP.About others in the industy adjusting their prices look at the RV dealers and Boat dealers they are the first too get their prices in line.The bigger companies try to hold out for more[are you listening Polaris]

I wonder what life would be like if all of the guys on here with good paying jobs(probably most of you), found out tomorrow that your boss was out looking for someone down south to do your job for less than you. I'm sure with the US economy the way it is that there would be plenty of people more than willing to replace you for less than you make now.
We pay a bit of a price to live in Canada and I for one think that price is worth every penny.
Maybe next time your down shopping in the US you can bring your replacement back with you, because along with sleds and trucks....the labour is cheap there as well..:beer:
