Lots of RPM... Not enough top speed

I popped the clickers down to 1 and took it out for a burn after work. I saw 100kmh so I guess we're a step in the right direction. What do these machines run for top speed right off the showroom floor?

And what was your WFO RPM with the clickers on 1?

It was right up there still. Just above 8000. I hit 90kmh no problem and then it took a few seconds to get the other 10kmh out of it

I have had sleds that will go 180km/h. Way more fun than going 80km/h...lol

If it's only running 90k on the flat it might only pull 50k in the snow. And a 800r motor likes to be under load, when they are unloaded there power curve flattens out fast.

Above 8000 but less than 8100 and only 100kmh? If so you got HP issues. Do a compression test. Maybe power-valves are gummed up.

I will tear into it this weekend and take a better look. It makes good power up to that 90kmh mark, hangs the skis no problem when I pin it. I ran a compression test when I first picked the sled up and saw 125/110. One side is a little low but I had my hopes high that maaaaybe once it saw some heat and was lubed up after sitting all summer that I would fall into the 10psi allowable difference between cylinders. But... I think it's just me in denial that I need to do a top end.

I don't believe compression is the issue, I haven't seen it cause that much a drop in performance.

I took my new to me 08 summit for its first ride this afternoon. Its revving to about 8000-8500rpm (I assume this is the limiter) but only hits 90kmh and wont go any faster. It has quick clickers, dynamo joe helix and a clutch kit. Clickers are set on 3. 90kmh seems a little slow to me, can anybody offer any insight. My last sled was a 1994 summit so I'm kinda behind on this newer stuff.

The kit for 3500+ feet should have these parts installed.
413 ramps for 2008.
A good upgrade is the 441 ramps from any 09~newer 800 summit
160/350 primary spring
15.9grams
clicker 4
QR11 or NCD2 helix
stock secondary spring
That setting should get you 8300 on the needle tach for say 4500~6500 feet.
Any questions about my kits can be directed to me at...

This is the reason I made my mountain ramp blend back in 2008, to address the overevving of a 413 ramp. In 08, BRP had 413 ramps for all elevations. In 2009 season they come out with a 441, the same time I brought out my 415-pushed out ramp.
I started with 438's and kept grinding to make the sled go faster.
Liked the start of the 415 better than the 438 so I blended the 415 start with the modded 438 finish and voila...my ramp and the 441 have the same curve from about 1/3 of the ramp to full shift.

Just going to my mountain ramp or to a 441 or heck..even a 438 will curve the overrevving engine speed that a 413 produces.

Plus...dont' know what elevation you are running at and could you be running high elevation flyweights at lower elevations where you need more flyweight?...yes or no?
Have to take an inventory of what parts you have in the clutches when you buy 2nd hand so you know what you have to be able to solve a problem in the future after you run for the first time.

90 kmh on flat trails? Deep snow, powder, sticky? My 154 summit 800 will hit 135 kmh. I'm not using 441, 438 or DJ ramps. What springs, weight, helix and gearing do you have?

Depending on what type of riding you're going to be doing will also determine what to put in your clutched. 90 kmh to 110 kmh is usually a type of mountain set up with aggressive back shift. Also good for boon docking too, hill climbing etc. Unless you're drag racing or doing lots of Lake riding 90 kmh isn't that bad.
