Looking for 'splash guards' to help limit mud on radiator - polaris sportsman

Hey guys

I bought a used 2005 sportsman 700 efi for myself and it has a 'splash guard' (not sure if this is what its called) on either side of the radiator , right near the front grill. Helps keep mud off the radiator.

I bought a 2017 sportsman 570 for my wife and it doesnt have these guards on her quad......and we ride the trails together and on both of our last two quad trips her radiator fins got clogged and she had overheating issues.


What are these parts called? I want to order a set

I highly recommend a rad relocate. ...best money you'll ever spend.

Rad relocate is a good idea except if you use the front rack for hauling

Best thing I ever did was rad relocate on my 2001 500. Plugged it so bad I had to pull the rad, mud baked in....also snorkeled the clutch.
There are a few different ones on the market [WILD BOAR, HIGH LIFTER, RUBBERDOWN CUSTOM], I made my own so I could still use my light. Had a mod that I could use all lights at the same time. Used all the mounts from rack, reused stock lights, no holes or plastic cut, could put rack back on without even knowing there was any mods done.

I bought an XMR so I didn't have do it again.

I do a good mix of trail and mud and have never had a issue in 5 years.. Play in the mud come home and give it a good wash and get the hose up in the rad.. Front rack gets used and with my style of riding a rad relocate would not survive. Don't know why the first suggestion is always rad relocate before they know how the person uses their machine

I havent had any problems after single day rides

but we go camping on crown land and ride 3-4 days in a row.....by day 3 sometimes we get some overrheating issues in the newer quad that doesnt have the splash guards

Grab one of them cheap 12v pumps so you can pull some water from a stream and wash it out... Look around your area for a company that specializes in tank building they should have some similar product that you can cut to fit... Probably get it for free if you search through their scraps

Google the radiator genie. Get one and a 12v water pump. Makes it easy to wash out the radiator.

yup a small boat bilge pump works wonders, long cord and hose so you can be back a bit from stream/creek etc. nasty fines for cleaning in water.

you can also get a cheap mudflap or boot tray and cut out custom mud flap. they do work. zip tie it on. the best is the bilge pump in my experience, just stop before you start to heat up, only takes a few minutes. water volume > high pressure.
