I am heading out to Golden Tuesday if anyone wants to meet up.
Im in the same boat as you DoCDoo. Was an aggressive mountain rider up until 3 years ago.
Rode Cats the last 5 years and this will be the inaugural XM cherry popping ride so I won't be going balls to the wall for a few weeks.

Know where you are going in there, I almost dropped over a few thousand foot drop off.........

I was on the way up and thinking about cresting...

Here is a picture on top of poo stain hill. See on the right. That is where I would have ended up. That drop doesn't stop until the valley bottom....

  • Thanks

I'm easy. Probably want to do a bit of exploring if there are a few other riders around but nothing too crazy.
If there is a crew heading somewhere else with more snow in the area I'm keen as well.

I'm not sure I'm ready for mountain riding (out there that is) but I really do want to go. I still need to get a beacon as well. Might go tomorrow for that though. Have shovel and probe.

Highfly, curious... I heard there is some groomed trails at Quartz to the cabin. Then you can play around the cabin without much Avy danger. Kinda like an open area without having to venture up steep etc. Can you shed some light? Thanks, from the newbie.

The canadian avy center is calling for low conditions in a all 3 zones , just minimal wind slab activity
There won't be much activity till the next snow fall.
It will be tracked out around the cabin but we can go as far as each of us are comfortable with.
Ill be breaking in my new sled so I won't be going balls to the wall.
Just looking forward to checking out the zone
DoCDoo, do you have any avy training and your gear?

Yes they have a really nice groomed trail in. You will find easy areas to ride no worries, Just wanted to make you aware of the dangers.

Some info to check out.

Not Sure Yet
Just remember that the higher you go at quartz the more risk that is waiting. Like highfly said there are areas you just don't want to pop over and when getting back to area 51 52 and so on it is a risk reward area. Play safe in what you can see and ride safe. Quartz is a fun area with tree riding hill climbs and watch out for the creeks as there might still be a open area in cabin valley

Grab a beacon and we will go up to the cabin and we can do some beacon practice.
As much as I want to roop, early season beacon practice is a must if it is your first time with that/ and or a beacon.
I am on a new sled so i'll be taking it easy DoCDoo.
I am a firm believer that you only ride as hard as the least experienced rider.

We all started off as a beginner at some point and I would be happy to show you a few things

What time are you leaving Calgary ren? Also my sled is in a small enclosed. I could haul or hook up to you and split gas. Whichever.

I just need to make sure my buddy didn't take the day off to go to Cataract as his sled is a trail machine (1998 Cat I believe)
