Looking for a stump grinder

I have close to 200 stumps to grind.
I was hoping on beating the snow. Does not look like the case now.
I did rent a 13HP walk behind one from Home Depot.
Between fixing it and finally deciding to take it back and grab their other one. I've got approximately 30 stumps ground in two days.

I'm going to give it a go today. See what I can do.
But thinking I may go the route of hiring out a big one.

Any recommendations on who to use or where to look?

I know if you’re grinding them you should let them sit for a year or two. Pretty cool machine it was fun doing my 2 stumps. Wouldn’t want to do 200! You ever think about hiring a hoe to come pull them out. Grinding is good but you still have lots of roots. Which if you are working the ground up will be hard, and if you are making it into lawn the roots cause mushrooms.

1st day did more repairs to their machine then I ground stumps. Ended up taking it back
2nd day 2nd machine. Did awesome. 3rd day it snowed I was kicking around the snow searching for stumps.
The little 13hp Toro worked pretty good. We'll see come spring if the mowing deck hits any.

we have a 332 skid steer with high flow and a mulcher head for it. Does pretty good...

Rent a Vermeer you won't be disappointed twice the machine the TORO is. You can get one like the Toro but work's way better, or a tracked one you walk behind nice unit way less effort. Personally I would be calling Fast Farmer and use the Mulcher if you can. I own a 5 ton mini hoe and depending on the stump size it can be a slow process, and hard on the machine.

I pull out stumps all the time with my 6 ton mini. I had a customer balk that I didn't bring my 22 ton hoe to pull out about 100 stumps, some where 12"+ in diameter. He couldn't move and pile them up with his skidsteer as fast as I could pull them, pulled out about 100 stumps in an hour. You do need to use common sense, but beyond that, not hard on machine at all. Having tiger teeth on a narrow bucket to tear up the roots helps a ton. Does depend on the ground a lot, but a minute of digging around the stump quickly it takes a pretty big stump you can't tear out. The most impressive I had with the mini was pushing over a 40' spruce, stump and all came out. Couldn't believe it managed to push that big of a tree over.

The machine works good and the operator has lots of experience, as stated before it depends on the size of the stump. I have removed some Spruce that were 39 inches at the base. The grinder was faster and way cheaper.

We just cleared a 5 acre parcel, did about half by mulcher, half with a hoe. Both worked well in their specific jobs. Mulcher did all the brush and 6" minus, hoe did all the bigger stuff, especially on the driveway and home site. After hoe removed trees and stumps he broke them up a bit and mulcher took care of all the cleanup including making the bigger trees and stumps disappear. The big difference is where the mulcher worked it looks like a park, where the hoe worked it looks like a mud pit.

We have allot of clay in the area so we didnt want to clear down to the clay level, mulching left all the soil on top of the clay, hoe cleared 600 foot driveway and home site to the clay.
