Longevity of the 850T Motor?

One would think not. The turbo 850 still has the same rpm and horse power as the naturally aspirated 850 at sea level,.Time will tell.

Having 2800km on mine, i will say there is no reason why this wont be as bomber as the 850 NA, you are just using the power it is designed for as there have been upgrades to different parts on the sled to take that power but in a lot of cases you are getting into harder areas with greater ease. Perfect example of this is when sled skiing we have 400-500 pounds with two guys, sometimes three guys straight up that a NA Expert wont make and it is half throttle over wide open for longer. Just like your expert 850 gets you places the 800 did not easier, it is the same with the turbo. I changed my belt at around 2200km and it looked fine but was droppin rpm on steep climbs. This sled has run the best of the 26 sleds I have over the last 10 years. It is amazing!
RE Warranty: has nothing to do with what they think a motor will do, it is what the industry standard is, and ski doo is creating that. What is the warranty on the stock, arctic cat turbo? Polaris Turbo? Oh yeah they dont have one....:d

passed 1500km on the weekend. same belt. I dont see why the longevity would be any less, like mentioned its the same stock HP guys are getting at sea level. I actually think with the Constant HP level that the drivetrain and clutching is always running where it was designed too so engine loads dont fluctuate like on a Stock machine. Time will tell, and granted some will fail its just a Probability thing with how many thousands are going to be on the snow.

Half throttle using 100 hp and full throttle using 100hp is the same thing on all components. Just because I chipped my diesel truck and now only require 1/2 throttle to pull the same 15,000 lb load up a hill doesn't mean it is working less and has more longevity.

yes I agree there the motors are and will do just fine, just making a point that no way are they going to last longer just because the flipper is getting pressed less.

Had one pass us on the trail to eagles last week probably going about 70kmh on a hard trail. Thought to myself he wont make it 2kms and sure enough 1.5 kms later there he was! Sliders actually smelled like burning plastic more than melting plastic! Lol! passed him and never seen him again and we even stopped at least 3 times on the way in.Gee I'm not sure why there would be any warranty issues on these new sleds!

ya those icy spring trails guys need to use some due diligence. The Linq snowflap works phenomenal in those situations. But on the weekend all the sleds were heating up fast, some of the other brands even faster than my turbo but they have snowflaps and no turbo so i wasnt complaining LOL. I was getting about 10km at a time before pulling over for a couple seconds to spin the track in some fresh and on my way again. The trail at eagles was pure ice. Snowflap recommended

Its why your toaster says dont put your hand in the toaster! Cant help some people, maybe most people, but of course he will be in saying he was just cruising out of his trailer and the sliders melted....

Maybe I am not saying it properly, the sled picks up quick, gets on top of the snow so your not using the same HP in the same way much like any modern day sled needs less HP than a 15 year old sled, your using less to do more. I understand what your saying but your just not loading the sled or engine in the same way. The expert feels like it free wheels now since so much less resistance due to the changes, the turbo is way better. I get your example, maybe you have to ride this sled for a while to see the differences, I have been lucky enough to do so, so this is coming from real world experiences being out there. And from everyone who rides it.

26 sled in 10 years...you don't have them long enough to know what breakdown is....like us regular folk that have to pay msrp and keep them for 5 or 6 thousand k... still the question is why not the 4 year warranty? To me that says brp dont believe they will last as long

What he said^^^^^^^. Mountain sleds don't get the longevity out of a motor like a trail sled. Why? Because of load. Way more load on a mountain sled engine than a flatlander.


very true, but dave brings up a good point, watching some gopro of someone following me with a turbo on my 154 expert i was pinned for 3 minutes straight, they were half throttle and on and off constantly trying to stay behind me.

all my sleds have at least 2500-4 thousand km on them before they are sold. So they are used a lot in a short amount of time instead a lot of time with lower kilometers and they all have happy homes that guys are still enjoying as a I sell many of them to friends. You may not like the warranty question but it is the answer. Tell me this, when at an auction, do you start with your highest bid or lowest bid? 2 years with option for 3 is more than fair compared to after market of zero and the other manufactures, WHO DON"T EVEN MAKE A TUUUURRRRBBBBOOOOO! :) You are also using your mentality to say what someone else might be thinking, which never really works. Design and build a sled, design and build a turbo for it, and then release it and then see how differently you might do things to the way you currently think.

Arctic cat was the first to bring a factory turbo to the sled industry, than yamaha stepped in with a aftermarket kit that still allowed the factory warranty to remain. Now the SW is a factory turbo sled.
Do was the first to offer a factory two stroke turbo, but out of all the turbo sleds on the market, do has less warranty without increasing the HP like the turbo did on the other two engines.

To me a engine is a engine, and a 4 stroke will always have better reliability than a two stroke regardless is its turboed or not. The moment the power is increased the reliability and durability is decreased.

I dont buy for warranty.....just a question as it appears ski doo dont have confidence. 4000k is nothing in my mind I have one with almost 10000k didn't change a spark plug until one fouled at 5200k. Not saying they are not good machines but 4year was the big selling point until now.

i think the fact that we have a sled that we used to just dream about is pretty phenomenal, now its backed with a 2 year warranty with option to buy more, also industry leading. 4 year warranty will come in time. If you've spent a weekend on this turbo 2 years more warranty would certainly not be the difference between buying one or not, they are that fun. If 4 year warranty is a requirement, well lucky enough the expert with 4 year is still available. Nothing wrong with that sled at all.

Exactly, the rest of the turbo still has the same parts as the expert. Still does not make sense to me yet.

I just had the oil pump replaced on my sled cause it was leaking, well the price of that oil pump definitely paid for the extra warranty I bought when I got my sled.
Warranty is a big selling feature for new and used sleds.
