i guess it depends on the size of your kid but i would rather get a phantom snowmobile , 250cc.

Does anyone have something like this that their kids have outgrown? The daughter is turning 8 this year, and I'm seriously thinking about building a little mini mod for her. She has been bugging me since she was 6 to build her a sled. I Figured I would ask here first, Not fussy on brand, or color. Anyone have a donor sled they want to let go for a cheap price? Would be going to a great home and will be a really cool project. Thanks!

I really don't see it being all that expensive. Mind you I don't have one sitting In front of me to see what all would have to be done. How long are the tracks from factory? What is the tunnel width? Really all a guy needs to do is put on a tunnel extension to match what length of suspension you put in.

Those little sleds look good but aren't fully functional with full suspension travel etc. They look the part mainly (yes they look cool). If your daughter rides a lot and either on trails or any areas other than private property, I would say get her a better sled because you will both benefit from her having better suspension and handling, not to mention it will be safer. She will have more fun, want to ride more and will be able to ride for a longer period.

Even a few miles on one of these little "mod" sleds would be very hard on kids IMO, long travel suspension with high spring rates in the shocks etc, make for a poor handling and poor riding sled. Watch the vid on top of pg 3, the sled trenches right through the snow instead of getting on top of it, when that little guy comes out of the snowbank that sled is sitting full height, and there should be at least some sag IMO (he is pretty little though). More importantly, without a proper functioning suspension, it makes for a poor handling sled (re: dangerous).

If its just for her playing around the yard, basically all you need to do is lengthen the swing arm in the rear (might not even need to do this), bolt on some flat bar alum to extend the rails, find longer shocks to match (personally I would lower the spring rate as well), and get a track. I think some are cut down tracks, some are custom but no reason you couldn't find an already skinny firecat track and cut it down a little more to something like 11" (if it was too wide). Nice thing about doing the firecat track would be that you could find one in a taller lug (at least 1" would be nice if it had clearance around the drivers). I think the tracks are likely limited to whatever driver styles are on the sled as well though, so cutting down a Firecat track might not be an option. Wahl bros sells a shortened Fox air shock for lowered drag racing skids that I think would be great in a kids sled, and the pressure could be dropped right down and still be functional and have a rising rate.

Thanks! You bring up some very valid points, and I appreciate your input. Great info Modman!

These 120's are pretty poor unless you just want your kids to ride around the yard. A kid will learn way more about leaning and riding fundamentals on a old elan or yamaha ET. Save your money you could probably find 2 or 3 ET'S for the price of 1 120 and your kids and you will be way happier. Just my 2 cents

My boy has been riding a 120 since he was 3. This is his 3rd season and now he will be riding a 81 bravo 250. I looked into long tracking his 120 and its just a huge waste of time and money. He can ride this bravo now for quite a few years until he is ready to move on to something bigger. I wont be bringing him up into the mountains until he has enough mass to actually ride a bigger machine. At that point he will be going on an 800 and never looking back.

I'm 24 now. My dad bought me a brand new snowsport when I was two. He said I rode it a bit that winter, but really packed the yard down the next winter after that. I then started riding a 1978 citation 300 from being about 5 or 6 till the age 10. Then rode a 1992 phazer 2 till I was 13. Then got into bigger sleds. I feel it was a good set of sleds growing up. Still have the snowsport in the family and don't plan on selling.

I currently own a sno pro 120, and it is not nearly fast enough or tracked enough for my little guy (7 yrs old) I had him on a 79 citation 300 last weekend and he loved it! if only i could get that 120 to go fast and handle well, he would be the perfect size to throw it around... He is only about 40 lbs, so the bigger machine throws him a bit still. I would love to mod one for him, the track and suspension off of one of the snow bikes would work good, and was thinking on modding it to a 250 or 340 sleeper mini. he could then rip it and not get stuck like the citation....

I have invested less than half the price of a 120 into these Enticers. If you don't count my labour. Blue on is a 300 and the Red one is a 340. Had them out yesterday and once I had the 340 leaned out it was hauling me through 3 feet of snow. My eight year old floats around on the 300 easily unless she noses it into a soft spot on a tilt.
