My folks have a princess auto electric and they do about 5 cords a year with it. Had it for 8 years no problems but slower than gas powered.

I still haven't bought a splitter yet, but thinking this would be a great deal seeing how a 5 ton electric is 500 bucks.
Thoughts???

Like a few others, I have the POWER FIST splitter from Princess auto. Works fine in warmer weather but I hear those who like to split wood in the winter that they slow down at about minus 15. Split a cord of wood in about an hour just a couple weeks ago. Each block was 16 inches in diameter so I split each piece into 4. I have the stand so would thow the blocks into the tub on my quad, bring them up by the shop, lift each piece out (no bending) and split. Goes pretty quick. Gas engines are something else to maintain and they are noisy.

I did like the looks and reviews of the 5 ton electric from PA, a lot better than any of the electrics at CT. I am going to look at the gas one at CT tomorrow.....

I caved yesterday and bought the 20 ton gas log splitter and have no regrets. It's max is supposed to be 100lbs and we put on one that took 2 of us to load. it frickin split it, without thinking about it...
We are very happy with this purchase :D
