If she wants to meet some girls to ride with, the ladies ride in Revelstoke is a great place to do that. The ride was cancelled last year, but I'm glad to see Kathy is back at it this year!!!

The thing about women riders that I notice is they are very nurturing and willing to help and coach. Some guys are good at teaching as well, but we just can't ride like most guys do. I watch a lot of guys muscle their sleds around with a lot of arm strength and that just doesn't work for most women.

If you are looking to learn serious mountain riding skills, there a ton of people teaching now. As far as women specific, Julianne is the only one I know of in Canada.

I'm sure the betties could teach you some basic skills. It seems like they've created a non intimidating environment for women and newbie riders. Just be prepared to get sucked into the whole betties club thing, it's not for everyone.

Lastly, if you are riding with couples, have her ask one of the better riding females if she can follow her. I get this all the time on the hill and it works really well. You'll have someone keeping an eye on your old lady while teaching her skills at the same time. Plus you'll be free to tear it up!

Like I said, most women are open to teaching and are very good at it. Try getting out with some couples, so she is not the only girl, or always the weakest rider in the group. I hope she enjoys riding as much as the rest of us girls on here!!!

La Nina Sled Camp (Nadine) operates out of Revy, she may do clinics in McBride/Valemount? Julie-Anne is great at SheShreds. :) Their schedules and locations are on their website.

With The Betties we do smaller rides, one on one help and we hookup with some industry pros and other instructors to do some beginner clinics. This year we have a few going on in different areas (TBA) and you don't have to be a member of our non profit club, it's open for everyone, same as the avy clinics we host. Our members get reduced rates and industry support for their volunteer work they do for our club, but you certainly don't need to be a member to attend any event or ride we put on. :) The Club aspect isn't for everyone for sure, we're essentially a power sports club for women, we're serviced based and our fundraising goes to other clubs and to support other industry groups working for power sports causes. Our main objective is to provide support for women riders who are looking for it, put them in touch with industry reps and products and to bring awareness to our demographic. We have 140 female members now, and our group itself with spouses and industry reps is nearing 300. So, as peeps have mentioned, you may not be best buddies with everyone in our group, but you are guaranteed to find ones you connect with and you'll have access to the tools and support you need, as much or as little as peeps want.
Shoot me a message if you can be in Golden Dec. 14 :)

As previously mentioned, it is very important to get yourselves hooked up with another couple or two for female support for your wife. Women tend to learn more from other women
and other men. We tend to listen half heartedly to our husbands, thinking they are trying to make us do things we do not think we can do. However hearing the same thing from a
different guy or gal helps it make sense and then we listen!!

Just remember when you are teaching her to let her know that this has nothing to do with size but most to do with skill and machine. Women can do what men can with the same
machines and it is not because we grow muscles in our poop overnight!! Its because we work on our skills and learn our machines.

Also as mentioned the "group" is not for everyone but it sure helps find "Like minded" new friends in a hurry. It helps to break the ice without the crazy awkwardness. It helps to show
we are all in this for the same reason...for growth as riders, growth as friends, to strengthen relationships with our spouses and families...if you don't want to be part of drama then its
simple stay out of it and have fun. Doesn't mean you can't join a group. But give it a try. We would love to meet you guys on the slopes some day.

PS we are in Southern Alberta and ride the Crowsnest Pass often if you are ever down this way!!
