Any of you ladies know of a female friendly riding clinic or teachers around Edmonton, Valemount, or Mcbride? Or any expert ladies want to go riding and give some tips? Lol

Just bought the GF a new sled to get her into sledding this year (she rides motorcycles and has ridden sleds and quads). While I'll teach her as much as I can, it's very obvious that the sled responds very differently to rider input when she is over 50 lbs lighter and 6 inches shorter! Lol. That and learning this new chassis myself this year.

Also, we're having a hard time picking boots, any recommendations?

This is her on her new baby 14 Pro 600........think I'm as excited as she is :)

Check out the BETTIE'S Powersports network on Facebook or www.thebetties.ca to hook up with some great female riders for casual "playdates" and clinics. We live in PG and ride in McBride etc., I am certainly not a pro, but can bring a female perspective to learning and getting better. My husband is also an excellent teacher :) be sure to hit us up with dates....

I live in Barrhead 1 1/2hr north of Edmonton. I'm more then willing to help boost her confidence on her sled. My husband and I have taught many newbies in the area. Once the basics are covered we plan a trip for McBride then move up from there. :)

If you have the cash to do it I would recommend the ride with chris brown clinic. He is an excellent instructor and he does one in mcbride. It is a little expensive for a weekend but well worth the cash IMO. We are doing it again this year. It has elevated my riding to the next level.

I would also add a Geoff Kyle clinic to the list - great dude and will really tailor the session to what you want to get out of it.
Basically, everything in this thread is valid except for that Betties nonsense.

As she sounds to be a nearly brand new rider I don't know if I would suggest jumping into expensive clinics right away. There is a lot she can learn from others first that will put her in a better learning position for if/when you do take in a clinic of that magnitude. Yes they do tailor to the group, but if you get a really strong group she may not get all the learning she needs. I've rode with chris brown and also would highly recommend it, it was fantastic. But having done it, I think some confidence and knowledge on the basics would really help her make the most of it.

As others ladies have pointed out, check out the betties and get her hooked up with us. We group ride amongst ourselves a lot plus hold events to encourage women (ie newbie day, ladies rides). There are lots of women in the northern section who could ride both locally and in the mountains with you guys. As i'm sure youll hear from many women, and some men, please have patience with her when learning! And break it down, explain and show the techniques. It really does help, I mean REALLY!

Look forward to seeing you guys on the snoww! :)

My wife just got into sledding last year. She joined the Betties and all I can say is what a fantastic, helpful, inspiring groop of ladies. Her joining the Betties would definatly be a step in the right direction. They did so much to help my wife with her riding and confidence (more of that to come this year!) Also the Betties husbands / manfriends are a great groop of guys themselves :)

I love our group of ladies! So much can be gained from having a supportive network right off the get go. My girls have gained so much love and confidence from our Bettie Shred sisters.

Here's some pics of our ladies rides out this way.

My daughter Brook

Brittani Gaining the confidence to climb the hill! I think her words were ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh here goes

This is Zoe. 2d time out riding she was climbing and given er in the trees. The Newbie ride was her first time out. She ROCKS!

Goooo Zoe!!

Our men are always welcome and quite often give tips and hints to make the days awesome! we ♥ their muscles! lol

A little something for everyone. My Daughter Brookie on my sled finding her wings!

We try to reach out and give our riders one on one time if they need. Both these girls were learning the art of Getting a sled on edge. Quite often dealers participate in the rides and provide Demos for the day. T and T powersports, Main Jet Motorsports, and this year Playmor powerproducts are just some of the dealers on board. They understand the importance of starting our women riders out right.

It's a pretty low pressure situation. We give our Newbies unlimited stucks. When a woman or team of women reach out to unstick another lady the dynamics can be a bit different. Our group usually makes siren noises... then we all whip over to the one in need of a hand. There are some pretty incredible situations we've gotten our girls out of. Picture a team of 6 ladies.. some grabbing on to each other.. snow bunjie on the ski.. getting that sled out of a phenomenal creek off camber on the verge of hitting china stuck. We did it ourselves... and most of our ladies comment that this was the most memorable moment of the season. We don't have pics of that one, but here are some other stucks
Here's our rescue crew! lol

Ok and a few more. All skill levels, and all ages are welcome! Like I've mentioned we've had my kids and other children out with us. Avy Savy and prepared they grow along in skill and confidence.
Here's another lady named Heidi. She is our "Grandma Bettie" here in the Koots. She's amazing and in her 50s Truly an inspiration, and passionate rider.

Heidi is a gifted and much published photographer. Here's a cool shot she did of me on one of our Ladies rides

Usually full of laughter and a humor of our own, the mood is super light and fun. This is me! Rawrr

this is Andrea, one of our directors. She just gave birth to a beautiful little baby Bettie! she rode preggers last year. We had a few pregnant riders, taking every precaution we ensure our riders are safe and taken care of. I may be a little over board with the Mother henning of our pregnant ladies, I'm a doula (child birth prenatal and postnatal care peep)

Andrea in action!

OOO and about Geoff Kyle and his freeride clinics. I honestly can't say enough good about Geoff. Not only is he a freakin amazing rider, he has a personality that is beyond humble. He's a HUGE contributor to our sport, and offers so much for mentorship and instruction. He takes time for kids too, which of course made me respect and admire him even more.
Super cool dude for sure.

I know all about those clinics and plan to take Chris' myself this year if work allows.

But won't put her in one of the big ones until she has a year on, is a lot more comfortable, and can get the most out of it. Sounds like the Bettie's can help big with the different techniques of a smaller rider after I teach her the basics.

See if I can convince her to check out the web page. Lol

Thanks for the replies! Hopefully riding the new sleds for the first time next weekend!

+1 for the clinic put on by Julieann Chapman... She Shreds...

It's great to link her up with other women to ride with but I hope you both understand that she doesn't HAVE to get along with every woman who rides just because she's a woman who rides! There are many different types out there and if she finds herself hanging out with a group of women she doesn't care for just because they're women then she will soon start to hate the sport (and get wrapped up in a lot of unneeded drama!) In the men's scene it's a little different because if you don't like a guy you just don't hang out with him! In the women's scene there is the odd pressure that ALL women should be best friends... and that just STINKS cause there are a lot of women riders out there that I just don't relate to! (there are a lot I do relate to as well though!!)

In the mean time, yes, the She Shreds clinic should be a good one and I can throw out a bunch of companies in the sates too if she's willing to travel...

Looking at doing a couple big clinics eventually, but waiting to get the most out of them, and justifying skipping a pretty nice warm vacation for the price. Lol. Hence looking for something closer for now.

Neither of us are the type to keep our mouths shut or feel the need to just put up with people we don't get along with......LOL. But we both get along with a lot of people.

A recommendation of boots would be klim or motor fist. We use the klim boots but a lot of great reviews on motorfist.

Always great to meet some new people. As my wife mentioned we are in barrhead if you want to hook up just pm me.
