Did a top end rebuild and was wondering how much more oil a guy can throw in a tank to give it a little help for first few miles?

I just had a bottom and top end rebuild on an 800ho and builder told me to run 60 to 1 in tank in addition to the injection system.
Said it wouldn't hurt to run mixed gas in it for ever.

Wow, that is rich. We used to run 40-1 without injection in the olden days. I can see extra oil for the first tank but forever at that ratio seems quite rich.

After first tank break in he suggested premix would help engine life. This is second crankshaft failure in this engine, mag side rod failure which he said is common on those engines as they do not lubricate well. I don't know what the first failure was as it was owned by a buddy that sold it to me with a warranty factory replacement engine. When I tore it apart it was obvious it was a repaired engine not a replacement. Don't buy sleds from buddies.lol

I had talked to separate dealers today and their mechanics said that it was a big NO NO to put oil in the gas tanks of the E TECs. It may foul up the injectors. So glad I checked. Has it worked for you bobsledder?

Haha thats pretty funny. you can run oil in your tank on an etec, Believe me it wont ruin anything. If it makes you feel better go ahead, I am a believer that extra oil in the fuel will increase reed and crank life. 8000km on my 13 etec running 8lbs boost original motor mixing 40:1 in fuel. Finally rebuilt it this year, pto seal was non existent both pto bearings were done, run out was 7 thousands and still running, just wouldnt idle anymore. Was gonna go till it popped but decided to just pull it because it just had nothing left anymore had a spare motor waiting, rebuilt the original for 1400, crank w/ stock pistons thought it was pretty cheap since i sold my spare for 1000 more than the cost of the rebuild. Now hoping i get another 8000km out of the next one lol

Sounds like you were running a good shot through it foresure. I thought it was odd that you couldn't but after 2 separate mechanics I became a bit cautious. Wasn't going to gamble over a bit more oil.

yes i run lots of oil. 40:1 in the tank and the oil pump is also turned up. After i threw a rod on my 11etec turbo in 2000km i changed my game and its workin for me.

i've got 2500KM i run 50:1 oil and injection. I use your sled as an example when people ask me when my fuel is bright blue. Lol. How could more oil hurt?

I was hoping to get 10000km out of it. The crank couldnt handle it. It was detonating out the pto plug all the time, I know from past experience when the plugs are loosening out your on borrowed time. When I tore the top end down the whole motor had a nice thick coating of oil througout, Tom at motts asked how i was running it because they are never lubed like that when he gets others in for repair.

Do the etects only inject fuel at the combustion chamber or do they have other fuel injectors. The new 850 has secondary injectors but the 800 I believe does not. I always added oil to my Xp's but don't see any advantage on my 800 etec. I could be wrong..

You dont want an air lock in the oil lines. But it does depend how you pull your motor. I use hose pinchers right beside the block when i pull the lines instead of emptying out the oil system, then bleed the lines right as you reattach to new engine. therfore not needing buds hookup, But if you want the breakin mode for the new motor then you need buds anyways, I blend in the tank and my pump is turned up already so doesent apply to my situation.

When we first fired it up we put it through 2 storage runs and extra 50ml down in crankcase.

How was your compression? I'm extremely happy with how mine is running. I'm going to keep it at 7lbs forever.

I just had my top end rebuilt by the dealer and they put my sled back into break in mode, so it's drinking more oil then normal.
