There might be something to Yamaha and long life. My buddies old Phazer had 18 000 km on it before it needed a crank and top end. When he sold it last year it had a total of 34 000 km on the rebuild and 120psi in each hole still. I know it isn't a high horse engine, but that still is impressive.

I had 5500miles on mine before I redid the crank. And that was more preventative maintenance than anything. Chassis now has over 6000miles right now. Still running wicked strong :)

its all the owner.... i tookm damn good care of my rev ( besides nailing a rock and rebuilding the entire chassis ) but that engine went 5000km's and still pulled like a brand new sled. did a top end at 3500km's and never had a crank issue.

08 xp had 3400 k piston came apart and poped a hole in the cranke case, and on the next ride blew the primary cluch! I tell guys to do top end at 3000 k or it could cost you lots! Ride a tnitro now 2000 k on it and not a problem!

When looking at at he life of a sled you need to seperaate the chassis from the motor. If you don't jump or whack a lot of stuff a chassis will last 20,000KM with some maintenance( shock rebuilds etc.) Motor, don't count on much more than 5000Km on a etec or 3000 Km on a PTEk. If your looking for a good sled I have a 12 Skidoo summit 800 163X ETEC 9100 with 2 year warranty left.

I agree that it's got a lot to do with the rider, and maintenance. My 02 Renegade is sitting at about 6700km and 11 years old, having seized the motor once (blown head gasket), and my 2013 is sitting at 320km and 2 months old, and it's already got it's second front suspension support and a new a-arm haha. A lot of people decide to call it quits when a motor gets higher mileage, or their chassis gets tweaked, but I'm one of those strange guys who will continue rebuilding until something major comes out again. Infact, the 02 is getting a good going over again this summer, and I'll keep riding the 2013 for the foreseeable future (so in my case it could be another 10 years before I look into a new sled again unless something significant comes out between now and then).

my 2011 XP etec has over 2000km on it as of today and its runs really strong. I plan to run the rest of the season and either sell it or trade it in. The most excellent thing is my sled is one of the ones that gets a free top end as per the recall for that year. Dealer told me to run it till it blows before getting the top end done, if that ever happens. So whoever buys my sled will be good to go. I expect to sell it at around 2800km. I swear these etec's are bulletproof.

Bulletproof?....thats the funniest thing I've heard all year.....LOL

I don't know about you guys, but 3000-5000 km isn't enough to be called reliable and is down right disappointing. You should get 5000 miles on a two stroke before opening them up. My 99 sks 700 blew at 5800 and now sits at 8200 miles. Should get another 2000 miles out of her. If that's all your getting out of these new two strokes, then a 4 stroke looks a lot better to me.

Thats kinda what i think, 2000 miles doesnt qualify as reliable in my book

it all depends on how you ride. I have seen 1 year old bagged pick-ups run worse than 20yr old pick-ups. How hot you run your sled, how often you do maintenance, if you just ride to the cabin and sit, or have a load on your sled all day long. In my experience it would be extremely disappointed for an average joe to get less than like 3000km. For someone like myself who doesnt sit still and generally doesnt let my sled cool down enough, im happy with a good season, and pumped if i get two seasons! There is not going to be a simple answer for this one. For me it seems like if im not blowing motors im bending chassis, especially with how light sleds are getting i feel like they are taking away from some strength integrity.

Agreed!! I had a '99 700 RMK and the crank went at 5500 miles and the top end finally quite at 8500 miles... now I'm lucky to get 2000 miles out of the newer ones!! TOTALLY DISIPOINTED in the newer sleds reliability!! :(

"PREVENTITIVE MAINTANANCE" If you have hard miles on it and are just waiting for it to "pop", order some parts, buy some beer and spend a day in the shop and do the top end... or wait for the skirt to drop into the crank and cost you lots of $$$ nothing runs forever, not even a yamaha! If you can afford the ride, you can afford the fix. just my two cents
