I wonder if you soaked them in something like paper mache paste if you could get some protection from them. Still likely useful to staunch the blood flow and if it is red, big bleeds would be hardly noticeable. I suppose I understand some of the logic (can't get a helmet that fits over a turban) but still doesn't seem like a good idea. Oh well. Not likely to affect any of us directly.

Well at least some of the riders this year will be safe wearing they're high vis turbans with out there brain buckets

possibly increase insurance rates? Since they couldn't just charge a turban wearing Sikh more, because that would be racist........

If a truck turns in front of you at highway speeds I don't think it's going to matter what's on your head.....

That is unfortunately very true. A good friend of mine was golfing at the Long Lake golf course (Highway 631 between Wakatenau and Boyle) and was playing right next to the highway. Saw a nice bike coming and he and the rider exchanged waves. Not sure of the exact circumstances but the rider was smoked by a vehicle within 10 seconds of the wave. It must have been 10 years ago but he still gets choked up when he talks about it. I think he was first on scene to check the guy who was no longer in one piece. He told me about it once and I don't have the fortitude to even ask him for details.

I know at least a dozen people that have died on street bikes. I love riding bikes, but in heavy traffic no thanks.

I feel for you guys that lost friends on bikes. I have been very lucky that people i know have had some crazy spills and couple accidents but are alive to tell.

I chit you not, just yesterday i was on 156st just before the yellowhead going south and seen a cop at the lights on a bike. White bike, yellow vest, pretty visible from a far. Well, a lady in a car decided to do a cali lane change and cut the cop off and he had to lock em up. Right away he threw on the cheery's and pulled her over and was pointing his arms to get her to pull back over three lanes. I seen all of this from about 3 cars back. of course stupid people don't keep driving slow and continue they stop and rubber neck, so i seen the cop get off his bike and start giving it to this lady. His head was shaking and bobbing and arms were just a going. He was pissed, i wish i had pulled out my phone to video it...it was that good. All i thought was, this would be prefect video to share on that thread haha Point being, someone is always gonna cut ya off or not see you and you can't get more visible then a cop on a bike...period.

merge lanes onto the qe2, don't seem long enough for drivers to get up to speed

Will be interesting to see results.

Sure a lot more Police cars at work now.
Must have more staff in for this study.

I agree with some points here Lund... But even if every rider was wearing hi vis gear in neon pink and yellow people will still be blind to them. Me wearing a reflective vest does nothing to someone staring at their lap texting and driving. shoulda woulda coulda.... sorry, but i'm not gonna change my riding gear because some people can't keep their eyes on the road. I'll keep riden like everybody can't see me and be aware of everything around me. Only reason why i haven't been smoked yet. Your bang on with the saftey training, been on bike since i was 3 and i learned a lot when i took my course. I figured WTF am i gonna learn that i haven't picked up already...it's worth every penny to get it done, even if your a seasoned rider.
Ya know one thing I find, lots of new vehicle's have side and side mirror blind spots that are 2 times the size of older vehicles, due to size of a-b-c pillars

I was driving Billy Big Rig last spring, totally a by chance that this would ever happen.

I came up out of our gravel pit as I looked both ways and the hwy was totally clear of all vehicles.

I slowed down to double check once more since this is my norm,,, then I do a third take just to make sure.

Good thing I did.

A vehicle coming from my right was hidden behind the passangers suit case size mirror 2 X's.

Their traveling speed and mine were both in timing that allowed their vehicle to remain hidden behind the blind spot mirror on the first 2 checks.

Lucky, dam lucky as I see the point of full stop then the 2 second count down.

That trick allows the un-seens to be seen,,, and gives the pumpkin time to adjust from stationary stop to the next step of getting underway.

The old bike saying is true.

A bike in the distance is small, it remains small for a long time.

Small, small, small, small, then at a certain distance it becomes BIG.

Next time a driver sees a bike in the distance,,, take the time too see if this is reality.

A big bike becomes large at 250 to 200 meters in my vision, each persons eye sight perception is different.

My could of been near miss was a 1 ton truck, yes, the Blind spots are there.

Us bike dude(s) might have the right of way on that highway,,, but not in todays world.

It is our job to prepare evasive actions and planing ahead before we turn that key.

Safe year to Yha all.

very true, bikers (we) need to be mindful of peoples blind spots and know where to ride...they teach you that in training course.

Anyone wear a Helite vest or jacket? Idea seems good, spendy but I guess no worse than Avy bags when they first came out.

How many guys use the flashing headlight module? As a cager I find that those bikes jump out much quicker and at a much farther distance than a conventional headlight. Probably not considered cool as it seems it's usually old guys on big cruisers that have them but wow I find them effective.

I have always hated them. I prefer to just put my headlights on highbeam. Bike stands out way more. I tell the wife the same. When she is riding behind me I can always tell between high and low.
