LED Light bar theft prevention

Hey,
I just installed a Speed Demon light bar on my truck and im looking into ways to make it difficult for thieves to take. I'm curious as to those of you who have had yours stolen off your truck, how are the being taken? Are they just unbolting the light bar from the brackets and cutting the wires or are the taking the entire assembly and cutting the wires. Any insight on this would be helpful.

I have had two 30" rigid light bars stolen off the front of my truck. First one was jut bolted onto the bracket and the wire wrapped in loom and tucked away all nice and tie strapped. Probably took them a minute to find the connection and in plug it, then rip everything out of there (loom must have given it a bit more strength) loosened the nuts from the bracket and that's all she wrote. Second one was installed with the super duper theft proof nuts that the guy told me would be enough to stump someone long enough to discourage them........nope didn't work. I had even had a guard welded over the light bar at each end to better protect the bracket and nuts. i can say that first hand a cordless grinder makes a lot of noise and someone must have heard it or seen this happening as they cut the guards enough to be able to pry them open and get the lightbar off again. This time they ended up cutting the wires instead of wasting time cutting zip ties. So for the third one I have welded it on, not adjustable and only if you use the air bags, but it still throws enough light out. Make a custom bracket that hides the nuts and it should help, otherwise any light bar is such a heat score if they want it bad enough it's going home with them.

Sorry about your luck. Ya it seems no matter what you do, if the dirt bags want it bad enough, they'll get it. Theres not much that can stop a cordless grinder.

Buddy just had his ripped off the front of his truck & they just snapped the mounts off & unplugged the wire harness.
Not sure what brand & if there are better mounts, but either way Sucks!!

from a friend in Drayton....over the holidays someone came into their yard and stole light bars off the front of their trucks. said it looks like they used boltcutters to snap off the mounts

Yup, you can see the v on the leading edge from the cutters and since the mount is just cheap cast aluminum it just fractures from that point, either that or they just use a big pry bar and snap the mount from the bumper

Guards over the brackets might work. At the price these things cos its worth a try.....

Teeroy - tell your buddy to check Kijiji there are a mess of them for sale in Drayton Valley without brackets or electrical and one cell number. Might just find his light and get his hand on the turd.

I have anti theft nuts on mine and the bumper and bracket are thick steel no issues yet had a 50" rigid bar on there for two years

When people realize that light bars are only worth slightly more than $1/watt then maybe the thefts will stop. I don't understand why people are paying big money for these when the overseas ones are cheap and absolutely identical to Rigid.

I have a couple of the overseas ones, while they are as bright they are definitely not identical to the Rigid bars. the Rigid's are built quite a bit tougher with better mounting system and replaceable lenses. but man, you can't beat the prices. I've got a couple 24", a 33", and a 42". all of them combined for less than the price of one 40" Rigid. the 33" has been on the front of my 3/4 ton for a few years and still works great.

The knockoffs are advancing as quickly as the industry leaders. My current 240w 20" is on the roof of my side by side and I break off a dozen large tree branches with it every time I go out, without issue. Search on Alibaba and get them direct from the production plant for much cheaper than eBay even. We've been bringing them in for local Rally car teams.

I think we should start boobie trapping stuff.Try to steal my lights and take a 12 gauge blast to the face!!!That would make thieves think twice!
Our "justice" (hahaha) system better start doing something soon or a bunch of hard workin regular folk are gonna be in jail for vigilante justice.

They may look the same, but they are far from the same. I'll put my 15" Baja Designs bar up against any overseas 50" bar. Lumens are only a small part of the equation, but lumens + optics is what equals a quality light bar.

Falls on deaf ears.....my friend is a refrigeration mechanic in GP, was working on a roof top air conditioner and a ****ty old chrysler car rolls into parking lot and pops the trunk. Plumb full of light bars obviously stolen. My bud calls the cops explains the deal and the policeman questions him how do you know they are stolen did you see it? Do you have proof etc?
They were not even interested in taking the license plate number of the car and checking into it. Mean while welders and the like are showing up one after another with cash $100 bills just a flying around. What has this world become?
