Anyone one here using the Lead dog light? I got one for xmas and haven't wired it in yet. I am wondering if instead of wiring it to the light switch could a guy use the 12v plug? I was thinking of getting a male 12v end and wire on a female jack for the light.

That will probably bust if ya crash and get ejected from sled. Trail riding would be fine maybe. If you night ride lots I'd sell it and get a led system with optional battery pack. My 2 cents

Lead dogs are pretty tough I've seen one getting drug behind the sled at wot Was kinda comical. The guy was riding completely blind after his only light fell off his helmet. can't believe he made it to the top. Use the plug it comes with it. They work really nice I have also wired a heated bar bag by just buying a cord with the same end from the source.

Lead dogs are great units.
I changed my male ends to RCA plugs so they fit into any heated visor/accesory plug.
Friends of mine have direct wired all stock hardware and zip tied female plug to bar.
Others have added a 12v cigarette plug in to the female end.
All work completely fine.
I have never seen one break as of yet in my 5 years of riding with this group.
But yet, they nor do I climb huge chutes in the middle of the night!
I prefer to do a full assesment in daylight prior to climbing anything that is steep and narrow.
If you didn't get the electrical diagram, just go to the Lead dog site and print off.

i did some searching and then emailed Lead-dog and they offer a 12v adapter so if i can't find something similar here i will order from them. They are expensive $35 then $10 regular mail or $20 priority mail.

halogen lights are a thing of the past
might want to look into LED light technology .. 2000 lumens on your helmet with a battery pack in your backpack

i already have the lead dog or else i would look into LED. do you have the name of an LED helmet light?

Save yourself some money and use an old cell phone 12v male end and solder wires onto it. Lots of the old ones come apart by unscrewing the end..
Generally there are tons of these old pluga laying around.
I beleive they are also under 10 bucks at the source.
There stock plug does look very nice and neat but a little pricey!
Led at Trail tech or Nextech.

Make sure u cap the sled side of the plug in
Snow gets into in and when u plug it in there goes the fuse
Used mine the first ride after I installed it
After buddy's axle bolt fell out

You bet Tex, forgot to mention that one. Fellas are just using a little plastic pipe cap which works great.
Here is what I am currently using. It is able to plug into sled or battery pack. The battery pack rocks if seperated from sled. Also I cut my low beam so that I can turn sled headlights off. This allows for better vision.

Oil cooler line cap works on my plug in , take it off and put it in the bag where the light is
Oh and extra fuses just in case also guys

They are well worth the lighting abilities though.
