I surveyed for 15 yrs, constant kneeling on ice in the winter took it's toll. then walking pipelines, falling in gopher/badger and hydrovac holes for 35yrs on pipelines did me in. knee joints were bone on bone, no fluid, mri's on both knees, recommended both knee replacements, didn't like the odds at 55. hobbled along, tried knee braces, pain pills etc. finally figured out prescribed cholesterol medication was causing knee inflammation. started taking an inflammation pill, and vitamin D, have been increasing amount of vitamin D 30,000 icu per day. inflammation is gone, haven't noticed any knee pain lately! seems to be working. I intend to take 50,000 icu's next week, no side effects with 30,000 so far. just what i'm doing and what i'm finding.

Investigating the topic as I have had a problem for a few years and shovelling the driveway the other day I did a little twist that is quite concerning. Both knees are suspect and I would like to try a couple of knee braces before going to the Doctor for an assessment.
What are you guys wearing? I want them high enough on my calf to be able to wear with my Klim boots and I think I want a soft type that wraps with velcro. TIA
Why not compression socks? maybe those won't work for you IDK. I wear compression socks when i go skiing in the Mtns work pretty dam good to, not nearly as sore.

I use those those on my feet at night time to increase the circulation. Depends on my activity but if I slack off on riding my bike, I get pain in my feet or numbness. They work wonders with reducing nerve pain.

My physiotherapist was able to get my knee braces covered on my benefit plan if that's an option for you so i went with CTI. Lightweight and highly supportive.
I did the same for my son. 3700$ for both knees for the CTI’s though. Would have been a tough purchase if I didn’t have 100% coverage on them.

I gave up the big clunky carbon braces and custom made ones. I now use the stoko supportive exo skeleton style base layer. Has high strength steel cables run throughout the pants. Dial up the support with boa style knobs. So much better than anything I ever wore before and supports the lower back. Way cheaper as well

Been using these for 5+ years, lightweight, not bulky. I wear the KLIM Snowbike boots and they dont interfere.

no idea how painful that would have been, but it sounds nasty! so would i be correct it was by accidental mechanical knee damage, not as in worn out? from what you have posted it sounds like it is on going! would you have inflammation in the knee joints and muscles in the area?

Lots, take daily prescription meds to keep swelling down and keep the knee working as good as it can. It will be ongoing my whole life, probably be a full knee replacement by 50-55, so 15 years from now if I’m lucky

ya, i was 55ish when i was told the same, asked how long would they last, told 6 months to 10yrs, no way to tell? i couldn't take the chance, its been a pain full last 20 yrs. the last yr has seen a major improvement, i can now lift the knees to my chest standing(huge improvement), still get some pain in rough ground or frozen tire track ridges. Drs are quick to get to major surgeries, instead of products that actually work!
my knee pain was not from single major injury, mostly long time worn out!

Ya I’m thinking if I got in better shape and ate better mine wouldn’t cause as much grief but she’s all full of titanium and rebuilds only last so long. I take vitamins and supplements for it to help. I always hated wearing the big carbon custom brace, felt like it caused more pain than not wearing it but saved it from blowing apart a couple times for sure. The brace however caused a hairline femur fracture in 2014 which wasn’t cool at all. I thought I broke it but was lucky. The stokos won’t do that and makes my legs feel 10 years younger I swear. Very awesome product
