Investigating the topic as I have had a problem for a few years and shovelling the driveway the other day I did a little twist that is quite concerning. Both knees are suspect and I would like to try a couple of knee braces before going to the Doctor for an assessment.
What are you guys wearing? I want them high enough on my calf to be able to wear with my Klim boots and I think I want a soft type that wraps with velcro. TIA

Welcome to the bad knee club. Dirtbike knees. Hyperextended both knees multiple times.
Start of the year I wear these knee braces. You can tighten them and loosen them as you like. Towards the end of the year as my knees get stronger I take these off and wear just the neoprene sleeve. I tried riding with the big pro series style braces. I can’t do it. They are too cumbersome for me. Slip these kneepads over top and my knees are protected.

I had Mobius ones that I used sledding and motocross. Ive since switched to just EVS knee/shin pads. But the braces worked with my sledding boots. Obviously not soft type but for riding they gave great protection.

I bought a set of those. Wore them a few days. Definitely way too big for my liking. Sold them new used.

I use the mobius knee brace. They are expensive, but can be covered under benefits with a doctor’s prescription.
They take some getting used to but now I forget I have them on when riding.

I gave up the big clunky carbon braces and custom made ones. I now use the stoko supportive exo skeleton style base layer. Has high strength steel cables run throughout the pants. Dial up the support with boa style knobs. So much better than anything I ever wore before and supports the lower back. Way cheaper as well

I just googled that set up. Looks unreal. That should hold my 50 something year old body together way better.

Thanks for this, my wife has recently been having a knee issue while doing her daily hikes, this looks like it could be the answer.

Mine was a bad snowboard crash, overshot a tabletop by 30’ 20 years ago, too much adrenaline going. Complete ACL, MCL, and meniscus tear. 3 surgeries in in 4 years after including a complete rebuild. Due for another scope soon. I threw away my $2800 custom made brace and sold my CTI one

anyone actually find out what the cause of their knee issue is?
Years ago when I was in the NWT, I got wacked on the outside of my knee by a broom ball stick. Got sent out to a specialist in Edmonton. Put the dye in and did a scan. The specialist said, “I have seen worse but I want to wait and see what happens when the swelling goes down."
Next appointment, he says, “I can operate but you may have more trouble from the operation than you do at this time."
I have been babying that knee ever since and it has served me well other than the arthritis that has crept in.
A little twist shovelling snow the other day has got me a little concerned. I will try a brace/support before I go to the Doctor.

The stoko is a great option, and everyone into winter sports wears a base layer

My worst injury was ripping the rail line between Rocky Nordegg on my 450. Young and full of piss and vinegar. I geared down and ripped across along mud hole. At the end of it was a jump. I case landed back in the mud front tire out back tire in. The bike immediately stalled fell over to the left buried my leg about 2 feet deep and then the bike pushed me over fully popping dislocating my knee, tearing all ligaments. I managed to get my knee back in that day. Went neck to camp. Parked my dirtbike and Quaded the rest of the week in 8-10 pain. lol dumbass
My other injuries weren’t so severe. General Wipeouts.

no idea how painful that would have been, but it sounds nasty! so would i be correct it was by accidental mechanical knee damage, not as in worn out? from what you have posted it sounds like it is on going! would you have inflammation in the knee joints and muscles in the area?
