In them hills.
Buddy asked me a good question today, some of the km on the odd sled seem to low for the model year.

Are guys able to bypass the guage cluster? Ie unplug?

Does the ecm still record the ligit km? Or just engine hrs?

I don`t know the answer to your question but I have an 08 xp with 3000kms, I haven`t ridin it in 5 years, just start it every now and then. Maybe he bought it and never got to ride it with covid. Check it over it, there maybe other signs of use.

I was always told to never start a skidoo with the cluster unplugged...not sure what happens, if anything but that is what I was told.

Not sure if I should actually write this but I’ve heard a lot of guys unplug the speedo sensor on a Doo and it stops adding miles. I’d suggest looking at hours as well when buying a used sled. I think I’ve got 1500km at 75ish hours on my ‘17 850. I’d be worried seeing 150 hours on a sled showing 350kms.

How do you guys check the hours on the ECM in some guys garage? A sled with 300km on it will look like a sled with 300km.

If it has 2000km you should be able to tell...

Lots of sleds are bought on a whim. Big plans of driving them lots and they never do. Usually a sled will show it’s mileage in other ways as in plastic shape, belt dust under the hood, paint wear stuff like that

There’s also the opposite guys who ride every weekend could unplug speedo you can make a sled look pretty good fast if you have stored it inside with some polish and break clean. I was trying to remember if there is an hour readout on these sleds when scrolling through the modes. I remember stumbling across this once on an old Yamaha bad bearing chewed up pick up sensor and speedo didn’t work for that weekend. Would of though on these new sleds they might throw a code? I guess from a warranty perspective it’s just a date km don’t matter. Now if your the guy buying it sure does.

Does cat and polaris work the same way?
polaris hooked to digital wrench will give you history. hours, overheats, overheat shut downs but no mileage. also brakes down how many minutes were spent at all throttle positions and rpm also.
i believe johnny still holds the record for most minutes at 80-100% throttle, lol.

I had a customer in the 90's would put like 7000-8000kms on his sleds then want to trade them in. They were as good as showroom sleds, maybe better. He even painted the undersides of his skis every trip. Not even a swirl scratch in his windshields. Still haven't figured out how he accomplished that? Just couldn't oblige him on a trade as 8000km sleds are hard to sell but he did do his regualr maintenace I will give him that.
