Recently I posted some articles for sale in Kijiji, which I have done quite a few over the last couple years. I have excellent success with meeting buyers and sellers to get what I want or what I want to sell.
This last month, the experience has totally changed.
  • No one reads the ad very well. I post price and good description with pics and still get question of what I am asking or what color it is.
  • Stupid, stupid low ball offers.
  • Fake phone numbers, fake names and 'No Shows".

This service is free, but maybe we are starting to get what we paid for.
Has anyone else been noticing this new trend of Kijiji?

I love Kijijji. I buy and sell lots on there. It is very easy to weed out the scammers and tire kickers.

Best way to buy and sell random stuff IMO

I noticed replies that seem designed just to get your email address not really specific to price or item listed, maybe the bots have figured out how to get past the 'code' you type in to reply.

I think people send a bunch of low balls on iTems there interested in so by the time you reply they don't remember exactly which item you were selling there fore seem to ask for more pics or what color or what not to remind them what your selling

Every year the buyers seem to get more flakey and the sellers are getting flakey too. Still a great service though, it's my go to for buying and selling.

I have some items on there as well and am sick of the low ballers. I would sooner keep the parts for backup
I have my razor roof and I guy offered me $100 for it and said he can buy the same roof for $150.00 I told him to show me the ad and if it is I would sell it to him for the $100 and since then have never heard back from him. Guess he cant find that ad. I can find it on UTV canada for $420.00

Think ill start doing what RonH does, lmao

My last kijiji episode was selling my 07 CR250R, listed for $3500 FIRM, guy offered me 2k, so i said yea sure, meet him, checks out the bike and says yea, hands me 2k and I asked him when he will have the rest as this would just be a deposit, dude freaks out, I told him you said 2k and I said sure, there was no agreement on final price, handed him his 2k back and gave him somthing to think about on his 3 hr drive home. My best tip is dont low ball or barter until you see it in person. And never meet the random in your garage where he stands there scoping out all the good stuff in your shop so he can break in two nights later.

I like Kijiji for what it does, allow free window shopping for just about anything you could ever want at your finger tips. What I feel some people forget it is not an auction site. Its not a bidding game unless you ask for by saying OBO.
When I put 'firm', it means I have some wiggle room, but it mainly means I have priced it fair and want to sell it without a bunch of hassle. Especially if I will not be home to negotiate and leave this for my wife to handle.
Some things I get to answer questions about:
Can you deliver?
What will you take in on trade?
Will you finance?
Can you take a deposit over the phone?
Will you send me a video of it running?
Can you send me a pic of the engine oil color?
Can I have it for the weekend?
How long will you warranty after purchase?
Will you take a personal cheque?

My faith in Kijiji has been restored! Met some really nice people with cash and a trailer. I hope they enjoy the RZR as it was a pleasure owning it the last 4 years. I did have to screen about 20 low balling, crack smoking, unfinanciable dirtbags that have nothing better to other than waste my time booking times to look at stuff and never showing up.
