Kids on sleds

How old/ tall are you sled parents out there waiting for to put the kiddos on real sleds? My daughter is 9 next month, and she loves her 120, but it’s like watching a bear ride a tricycle. She’s super tall and athletic for her age, but the thought of her on a full size sled still seems wrong to me. I’ve got a mid 90s cat 500 that I picked up for a good price, just seems like a big jump. Horror stories? Or am I turning into my wife? Haha.

Let my girls loose on Enticer 340s when they were 7. . First daughter had some issues out west trail riding but they do fine in open fields.

Gonna get my 8 year old on my old m7 174 this winter. He is really good using the throttle on his razor and dirt bike so I think he’s gonna catch on to sledding too. Will just be ripping around locally this winter with him.

My son was on a Yamaha Exciter SX 570 when he was 8. When that blew, we put him on a 2008 Phazer mtn. He would have been 10 then.
If you think she’s ready to move up to something bigger, then go for it. I’m getting the impression you keep a close eye on her when she rides, which will help grow her riding skills. Especially on a bigger sled.

I suppose it depends on the kid and their experience. My son has been on motorized toys since he was 3 so he is familiar with the throttle response. Started on a 120 when he was 4 then to trail 550 when was 7 then rode a m6 153 when he was 9 until he tried my doo 800 154 with the t motion when he was 11 now he is 13 and his next sled he’s gonna have to buy lol. I alway made sure proper equipment like a flack jacket vest aswell as the teather. When he was younger I wasn’t able to really ride spent most time watching him just in case because they are still heavy enough to hurt them. But as he gets older it gets easier

My boys were about 7 when they started to ride on the lake they take turns by 10 they ride all day on there own sleds they caught on very quick . Good gear goes long ways. Its a lot of fun with them . In the beginning it was a lot of work and they get cold fast but every time it gets a little easier and year by year they get bigger and stronger. Before you know it they are doing donuts on 174 apex . I cant wait till they can drive the truck and load and unload .

Take a good look at that 200cc cat kids sled or wait a couple more days there looks to be a tween sled being released.

Not a powerhouse with the 550 fan.
Be good for trails and learning?
All my girls were on sleds as soon as they could hold on for a ride and driving on their own by 8 or 9.
They had a Indy 550 Super Sport to start on before they got their present sleds.

I have three kids 9, 7, and 4. Last year I had a Cat 120 and 200. All three would fight over who got the 200. As anyone who has been around a 120 much knows they are quite limited as to where they can go. This year we traded the 120 for another 200 and plan to turn the 200 down when my four year is riding it. My 9 yr old is quite cautious so the 200 is ok, but a more aggressive kid at that age would likely out ride the 200 fairly easily.

My boys are 9, 6,and 3.

The 6 year old is moving up to a zr

200 this year. Passing the 120 down to the 3 year old.

My 9 year old rips and has been behind the handle bars of his dirt bikes and sled since he was 3. Tonnes of seat time.

Due to limited mid sized sled options at the time, I got a phantom 250 that he has been on for 3 years. It a bit bigger and faster than a 200. Way more capable with the long track. Probably more size appropriate for a tall 9 year old than a 200.

I would like to upgrade him now to the evo RMK. But they are about 8G.

If that’s out of your budget I would consider parting with the phantom for about $2500. Then I buy my oldest the new EVo.

Also tried the snow bike thing for him but that was a flop!

Kids are 5 and 7. My boy has physically outgrown his 120, so I bought a 250 Citation Safari for both kids to grow into. My daughter will keep riding the 120 for another year or so.

Daughter was 6 when she got off the 120 onto a 250 bravo. My boy was 9 when he got on his current sled an 06 rev 800 144. Both kids have been sledding since they could squeeze a throttle. It’s nice as they get older and we can get out as a family more now.

When my boy turned 12 I bought him a brand new 16 freeride he rips on that thing now when he was 8 I bought him an new mxz 550

Your 9yr old could turn a rev? That’s impressive. I guess I’ll try her on the 580 this year and see how she does!

Our granddaughters aged 12 ride Skidoo 600s with no problem. They started riding when they were about 8 but could not ride long before their throttle thumb got tired. If you buy a throttle gizmo she'll be good to go on longer rides.
