Hey all,

I recently purchased a 50cc atv for my kid and i got wondering on the requirements for insurance and registration on it. We are on a farm, and have our own land for him to practice on, but I'd like to take him for a trail ride eventually. I can see needing insurance BUT, in the fairly grey TSA it says that all OHV vehicles require registration and insurance.

I've heard that some folks have issues getting Proper insurance for their kids atv's due to age limits for "insurability"

I'm looking for your experiences with this and what you have done with your little ones atv's in terms of insurance and reg.

Thanks in advance!

Wasn't there a law that anything with a motor of less than 50cc didn't require insurance registration. I believe all of these 50cc motors are 47 or 48 or 49cc. It should say on the side of the motor somewhere exactly what size it is.

Technically the operator or off highway vehicles needs to be 14 years old. And your suppose to have lights etc.

So if a Cop wants to be a Looser and write tickets and send you home they can, whether you waisted your money on paperwork or not!

Just Go Ride Them! Skip places like Bighorn dam on a Long weekend! 💰👖

There is under 50cc no reggie or Ins, just look at some of the tards riding around Etown impeding traffic flow because the unit is unable to go road speed but yet think they are a truck or car Smh. My Bil takes his kids off farm to various private tracks for the kids to practice and various backcountry places and has none of that (reg, ins) said he wants to wait until the kid hits 14 or 15 then will look into it, until then happy trails and have fun learning to ride:)

From past years experience and being heavily involved with ATV clubs and governing bodies and talking with local law enforcement over the years.. When my little one started riding she was 2 1/2 and is now turning 14. Back when she started riding i wondered the same thing and after questioning things i found out that yes it is a grey area but was told as long as the child was supervised that their would be no issues. Over the years we were pulled over a few times riding FSR and trails. The officers checked to make sure the machines the adults were all insured and always thanked us for having all the safety gear for my little one and supervising her while riding, they said we would never have a issue with the little one riding as long as she was supervised and wearing her safety gear. Now that she is older the machine is insured and we have never had any issues..
