What's the best way to get this primary off without a puller?

use the water trick a bolt that fit clutch thread and tyflon tape and inpact gun

Anyone know what the part number is for the artic cat clutch puller? I need to order one up.

Or an aftermarket one I can order online. (Quick shipping)

It’s the same puller from 10yrs ago you’re local dealer should have it in stock to purchase and if they don’t they should lend it to you depending on your relationship with them...with that being said most dealers will want the entire sled to do any kind of warranty claim, as cat will require a download from the ECU, and pics from the dealership
they always come back bent

Water trick is the only way to go, get the right sized bolt that threads in the clutch, wrap said bolt with teflon, use lots, ( on the TRA I wrap it enough so that the bolt barely fits through the governor cup). Fill with water, thread bolt in and tighten.

I personally dont use an impact. I prefer a breaker bar and as you tighten it you can hear it start to let loose right before it pops.. Cat clutches usually take more torque on the bolt to pop it off than the TRA's in my experince.

Also make sure to clean/dry the air out of the end of the crank.

Dont end up like this guy shearing the clutch puller off in the clutch having to cut it off in many pieces.

be careful not to bottom bolt out with impact gun I use the light green teflon tape for lpg gas fitting (works better than the white stuff)

I see the mounting bolts for the torque control link(TCL) are Allen head and the TCL isn’t a solid chunk. It’s got some fancy factory machining going on. What year is that sled?
I am pretty sure that one is 16 M8.... picturez are only for reference of the broken off clutch puller bolt, as well as what's left of an extractor.


Also, anyone have a spare 2016 M8 clutch laying around.???..

I know a guy in the market for one

Here are five cracky clutches. All the belt marks are different on each clutch. Definitely not the same photos over and over.

You can print these pics and show the dealer when he gives you the old “I haven’t seen that before” shtick.

Save this thread and pics for future use. It might come in handy.

Quite accidentally, this thread has excellent timing for two reasons:
1. Right about about now, depending on purchase date, the one year warranty starts to expire on the 2019’s. This is a heads up for Cat clutch owners to get the clutch and other stuff replaced before warranty runs out.
2. The USA Federal Consumer Products Safety Commission(CPSC) complaint along with crack and fracture evidence was submitted the day before the US Thanksgiving. Not much can be done until Monday because of the holidays.

One can only guess what the Cat and Team head cheeses are thinking about over the holidays. Maaaybe-How much will this cost? 2mil? 5mil? 10mil? 20mil? Can we survive this financially? Will there be a lawsuit? Has there been an injury yet? How much is the Civil Penalty for failing to report defective recreational off road vehicles(ROV’s)? Polaris paid 27.25mil for failure to report defective ROV’s. Kawasaki paid 5.2mil for their failure to report. Dayamn! Can I offer customers a straight trade for a 2021, plus mod costs, no depreciation deal? Will that make this go away? Will this damage my company reputation? Will I have to replace all 20,000 Team roller bearing clutches? How can I get out of this jam? Will bankruptcy work? Dam, just another few months and we coulda denied warranty. I can’t even blame Kanedog because deep down I know my product has issues. Now the whole internet knows. I shouldn’t have cut corners to save money. DOH!

The love and warranty stop at day 366 and day 367 on leap years.

I must add this primary has 4500km on it.

Are you saying the mileage makes the crack acceptable? Note the pics where dude cracked one at 600miles and one at 900miles.
No worry’s though. The clutch must not crack at any mileage. It’s the crack epidemic that’s important. The crack is real.

Yes it will be the same clutch unless you purchased the new 2020 clutch ending in -995

This would be an interesting scenario if you have any wear or cracks. Can you remove the belt and post pics please

I will check the sheaves today, I did look and my clutch doesn't bottom out on the spider nut

So if your 18 or 19 cat has a cracked primary and u get it replaced under warranty, are u just getting the same junk put back on or has there been changes to the clutches on the model year 20 sleds ?

Im not a fan of the water trick for primary removal. Yes it works but, The clutch is designed to be pulled off the taper rather than hydraulically expanded.
Even for stubborn TRA’s use lube on the end of the puller, stick a hair dryer in between the sheaves with the puller bolt tight, it will pop off on its own.

my clutch isn't cracked and I will keep an eye on it, but my buddies Alpha's clutch is cracked he checked it today 1300kms on it
