Joyride tires (Chinese any good?)

Looking at a new set of trailer tires.. I know it has been discussed before about the china bombs. Has anybody run the Joyride ones that they are selling at Uncle Weiners? I go through a set a year so at a $100 or so for a 235/85/16 -14 ply that seems pretty darn good. I have had good success with sailun before and nexen tires as well but those were vehicle tires. Thanks for your comments.

I think the goodyear endurance are a little over $200 for the same size tire, have a very good reputation and are made in North America and backed by fountain tire. I put a set on my holiday trailer last year and am very happy with them, they run about 10 degrees cooler than the Chinese tires they replaced.
For $400 I think I’d buy the name brand. If you get 2 years out of the Goodyear’s then they’re as cost effective as the cheap ones. One blowout of the cheap tires would cost way more than the extra cost in the good tires. IMHO tires are a bad place to try to save money.

Yeah it’s something like that all right... horse need this horse needs that the list is long in the next few months. Btw the pic isn’t big enough to get all the expenses captured, forgot a truck, feed,supplements,vet,farrier etc

Save a little, blow out a tire and loose all horses.... As the old saying goes ya get what you pay for. Imo tires are not something to cheap out on.

Biggest thing to look at is how much stuff is going to get wrecked on the trailer if you have a blowout. Holiday trailers are the worst. They're built as light and as cheap as possible and a tire comes unglued and it's going to tear stuff off. For $100 a tire in that case, brand name is cheap insurance.

Your money, your decision. My old man runs the Princess Auto ones on his boat trailer. The screwed up part is that trailer is just too damn light for the boat and never should have been sold with it. It goes 650km one way in the spring and back in the fall. The last 100km is northern gravel highway and it takes a beating. He's forever knocking the alignment out of whack and burns through a set of tires in 2 trips. He never blows them out. When that size of tire and wheel go on sale at Princess Auto, he can buy a pair for way less money than our tire guy can mount a new set of imports. There isn't much to wreck if he does blow one out, so no big deal.

I’ve had good luck with sailun on my trailer, on a tri axle dually a blowout isn’t a concern and they will dry rot before I ever wear them out, going on a little over 2 years with no issues. I’m running long march drives and i can’t remember the brand from uncle weiners on my dump steers they seem fine. Only issue with the steers is they shack a bit at highway speed, I wouldn’t run them on a truck on the road a lot but for a truck I use every few weeks they work good. There were only $200 brand new, whereas a crappy used tire is $200, or new ones about $500.

If you stick with a known Chinese brand like long match sailin etc I wouldn’t be worried about it unless you run huge miles loading the tires right to the max, then I would spring for name brand. Kal tire didn’t even recommend going with a name brand over sailuns as said they’ve had no problems at all.

That's interesting, I never thought of taking the trailer in for an alignment. My tires are due, trailer is 5 years old now and wearing funny. Was going to buy new skins at the end of this season.

Almost all tires made in China now,I buy them on steel rims and they are better then most tires double the cost.

in my retirement i buy and sell and install tires for people,and have bought a few hundred tires from Uncle Weiners and ALes tire in behind PA . all are chinese and havnt had one issue. put a set of 14 ply 19.5s on my diesal pusher motorhome with no issues for our trip to Yukon last summer. these were $190 each w tax. local brand name tire shops all wanted around $350 plus install each.and they were chinese too ?my wifes mini van and my Nissan have Uncle weiners chinese winter tires. 1/3 price of in town .a friend with log trucks runs $200 Uncle weiner tires too all the way around. says the truck steer better than the $700 Michelins ?

I have a good buddy who owns a busy tire shop. I hang out there every now and then. The difference in trailer tires is substantial. I can take most of the cheap chinese tires and nearly collapse them, tread to tread. Impossible to do with a Goodyear. Their is little sidewall in the chinese tires and the belting is thin. There is no way after seeing this I would feel comfortable with cheap chinese tires.
