if most of the people were in their homes when it happens more mass confusion traffic jams ... from the vids that ive seen was densely populated areas but not many people home at the time

That's true. I never thought of that.

TELUS is making all consumer calls to Japan free through the end of the month, wireless and wireline.

"A number of our team members and customers have deep ties to Japan, and we want to support them in any way that we can. We are also looking at whether we can offer free text messages as well, but that proved technically impossible in such a short time frame over the weekend."

fortuneatly they have a good warning system fot the tsunami's,,, I think they only had like 10 minutes but yes like you say thankfuly a lot of people were away at school and work,, if it was dinner time or middle of the night oh my,,,,

we have family there and people are scared,, they are in Osaka not even that close but the whole country fears another significant quake as well they are terified about the reactors because if one blows up and the wind is just right that could be tragedy for so many,,, this is a small landmass country very scary,,,

just imgine if this was in Vancouver wow it would really hit home,,

I am wishing the best for that country right now....

Chances of a plate fracturing is possible but not likely, earthquakes generally happen on the existing fault lines of the techtonic (sp) plates as they slide against or underneath each other you can bring up maps of where these fault lines run.....none run near here, the San Andreas fault is the one that runs up the coast of california, I believe that is the closest to us....chances of an earthquake here are slim to none ........http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Andreas_Fault

the major fault line comes up california towards vancouver,,, they do predict a major quake in the next decade but how can this really be 100% accurate,, but they are pretty certain.

the thing is where the quake hits,, when they are close to the surface the shake hard so it takes less of a quake to destroy,,, if its in the ocean you get a tsunami,,, but if it cracks a piece of california off wow big destruction,,, this all could be a 1000 years away for all we know.lets hope

no one knows for sure but yes the west coast most defineatly has more odds no question.... its stated everywhere and studied in school lol...
