First of all, I don't want to make light of the Bugaboo avalanache and/or the grieving process of another fallen sledder.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think something strange is going on? Yesterday, I found the Bugaboo avi thread on S&M (thanks to foothills m8). Went to search the Telus epaper, the Sun epaper, the Province epaper, and nothing? RGM posted the RCMP report and later in the day I found the information on the CAC bulletin.

Nothing in the epapers all day? The television news last evening was very sketchy. No bashing, no negativety, no nothing? What is different?

The news played it out. Nobody cares now.

Move onto the next "big" thing.

THE RADIO AND TV(MEDIA) NEWS UP HERE BOTH STATED THE "INDIVIDUAL WAS "HIGHMARKING"".........MAYBE THIS IS THE NEW "NORM" OR STANDARD FOR BACKCOUNTRY MOUNTAIN SLEDDERS IN THEIR EYES(OPINIONS), AND THEY'VE GIVEN UP ON TRYING TO PRY DEVIOUS OR DAREDEVIL INFORMATION FROM HONEST TO GOODNESS SLEDDERS..........ONE DEATH, AS TRAGIC AS IT IS, ISN'T SENSATIONALIST ENOUGH FOR THE MEDIA............

As far as the news reports go I think a sledder's death is getting to be as commonplace and about as newsworthy as a traffic fatality. It just isn't a big deal anymore. Global had a good coverage of the avalanche and showed pictures of Mark and an interview with his father in law. It is very sad in a way that this is becoming too commonplace of a tragedy to rate much coverage anymore.
