Our Ford dealer BIG TIME SUCKS!

We have 2 F-350 6l, and it seems like one of them is always in the shop getting fixed.

This past time; the one Kevin drives has been in the shop 5... yes FIVE times to get looked at as it has been blowing cold air intermittently. First it was the ERG cooler (AGAIN - Probably the 3rd (possibly more, would have to check invoices) one on that truck now at just over 110,000 KM). Then it was the Thermostat, then it was a short in the heating system, then it was "Bring it in Kevy, we got a 5 minute quick fix" which of course took 2 days and did nothing. Now it's the head gasket...

Which was already replaced at +-50,000 km. At that time he installed the ARP studs, and was not told anything about it affecting his warranty. Now, they are refusing to warranty this supposed head gasket failure because Ford has asked for the bolts and gasket back...

SO back to the point, I guess I have 2 questions

1) Has anyone ever blown a head gasket AFTER getting ARP studs installed?

2) Has anyone's warranty been denied because of ARP studs?

I had a 6L a few years ago and the heat was intermittent for a while. Then it went completely and I could smell the coolant in the cab. Coolant was leaking into the cabin air system.

#1. yes heads can go again after studs. if they didnt figure out why the first time. Depends how hot it got could be warped heads. No studs will fix that. Plus if you went through 3 EGR coolers they need to change the Oil cooler. They now find it is the Oil cooler that kills the EGR cooler.

#2. no warranty because it is aftemarket parts. This is bad because I use the same dealer and just had heads done. they told me it is covered under there own shop warranty 1yr 20000kms.

Tell them to do an Engine Coolant verus Oil Coolant temp check. If there is to much spread the Oil Cooler is bad.

Oh and dont bring it North our Mechanics are even worse. I go down to Bville for the Diesel Mechanic.

really in all honesty they shouldnt deny your warranty arp headstuds are top notch imo way stronger than stock they should not be denying warranty over a part that helps your motor out I'm a gm and nissan dealer and the way we do it is if it is directly affected by the aftermarket part yes a chip will not be warrantiable but in all honesty the headstuds should be covered no if ands or buts take it to a different dealer

You are not alone and it's likely not your dealer. My 2004 6.0l has had the oil cooler fail once at around the 160k mark. I did the egr delete at the same time and it has been strong to the 225k mark. It has been a whole different truck since those were done. Pulls hard, heats up quick and stays warm. I was told to run full synthetic, avoid excessive idling, and change the oil often. Since the egr delete was done, that is supposed to be less necessary.

Fyi, out of my buddies, all five F350s with 6.0l required either the head gasket, egr cooler, or oil cooler. I got lucky with the oil cooler, as it was way cheaper than having to put in a whole motor like two of my buddies. Most of my friends have dumped their trucks and gone to dodge or gm for the reliability.

From what I have read, if I lived in the bonnyville/cold lake area. I would take my sick litre to Sandin Performance in St Paul.

I traded my 03 F-350 w/6l off acouple of years ago. with talking to some fo the people that work on engines that are not Ford Dealer i found out the from 03's had the most problems with the ERG and head Gaskets by 05 models most of the ERG's were working well but the 6L engines for all models from 03 to 07 still have head gasket problems.
I now drive an 08 with the 6.4L. it has 85K on it now with no problems

When Ford warrantied the first head gasket, did they put in the ARP bolts upon your request ? If so, you should have been given something in writting there and then stating your warrenty is now void. If they installed them, and offered you no heads up, the problem remains yours.
There have been two guys that I work with that had major engine problems within the first 50k. Blown turbos to thrown rod. Ford bought these trucks back when threatend with legal action after trying to get out of warrentying the engines.
Ford knows they are a problematic engine, stick to your guns, get it fixed for free....then dump them....both

just my $0.02

Not sure how much you wanna keep the truck but if I was in your shoes I'd be getting rid of the EGR system as a whole and install the black onyx headgaskets, mind you that would be on your own dime, not warranty. There are several companies that have a kit for this like Sinister Diesel

Sinister Diesel EGR Delete Kit - 6.0L

My buddy's 06 F350 6L had the head gaskets done a while ago, probably around 40-50k on it then (around 100k kms on it now) and they installed the ARP head studs at the same time. He's never had a problem getting warranty work done on his truck such as injectors and they ignore the fact that he has a programmer on it, just as long as its turned back to stock when it comes into the shop. Maybe he's just lucky with his dealer? I dunno. Let us know how things turn out.

Get it fixed and park both of them in downtown Edmonton or Calgary with the doors open and the spare keys in the glove box. They won't last 5 minutes and some crackhead will have them.

I have never had any head gasket jobs i have done with arp studs fail. If the tech who installed them torqued them properly there shouldnt be a problem they NEED to be cycled minimum 3 times before final torque i have always cycled arp studs 5 times before final torque this is using arp moly lube They do have a new lube called ultra lube that proves the fastener is at its full streach potential when using it eliminating the need for cycling and i have yet to have used this lube but before it if you do not cycle your fasteners they will not hold properly Also the 6.0 head must be flat less than .002 warp allowed If you have any question pm me

In my experience all the dealers suck my 03 is a POS had to buy a second one just for parts I fix everything myself now. If you own a 6 liter there a few things you should know. Always run 0w40 oil in it cheap or dirty oil will take out your injectors. Always replace your batteries in pairs bad batteries will also cause your injectors to fail. 6 liters need at least 12.5 volts for the injector to fire properly it'll run on less but it'll be hard to start and eventually take out an injector or your Fuel injection module. A good site to go to is

My undestanding is to void the warranty, they must show the non-oem parts caused the damage/failure. In the US, it's under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act, but not sure of equivalent here. MMW act doesn't apply here, but it's a start for you.

Your warranty book should say something like "Ford Corporation will void any warranty in which an aftermarket device CAUSED the problem." The problem is as a consumer we cannot prove the non-oem part did not cause it, but, it should be incumbant on Ford to show it did cause the failure.

You indicated you had the EGR/oil cooler repaired a couple of times and the head gasket failed before. Does the work order for those repairs confirm they sent the heads to be checked for warping? If they didn't, you may have an arguement that the dealership didn't check for warping after previous repairs, and this failure can be due to that.

Best of luck.
