is it bad gas

took the motor out of the 700 summit due to detonation. thought it may have been regular gas instead of prmium, fixed morot and took it for a break in ride , ran real sweet again. pulled plugs and one was grey.
no problems until 10 days ago when ufa premium gas purchased.

bought premium gas both times at ufa red deer. looks like the last time. any one know were the freshest gas {premium} is in red deer area. may have to mix in some av gas.

UFA uses Shell products now. UFA in Spruce Grove doesnt have premium, so I go to the Shell station for premium for the sleds. Anybody know if there is an easy test to prove octane levels?

yes i thought the same, may be old gas, no idea how much they go through. the north end station is the only one that sells premium.

Larry you say ONE WAS GRAY. If its gas it will be BOTH. one GRAY leads me to believe jetting or maybe you never pressure tested the engine after assembly. Which you could possibly have a air leak somewhere.

What cylinder burnt down the first time? and if it was the same side that showed grey again I wouldn't suspect fuel as I would air leak or other issue maybe if its consistently hot on only one side.

be cautious of using pumps that have premium and regular in the same hose. if the last guy purchased regular and you click premium, you will have to empty out the hose and whatever is left from the last guy. not so bad on sleds with big tanks, but more important on quads and bikes with little tanks.

Larry, my plugs were grey on my sled, excessive water that went into mine. Dark grey, kinda like aluminum mixed with oil color?

I get my premium at co-op north end, they go through alot, also petro can south end uses quite a bit, thats where i used to buy all the gas for the bike untill co-op opened.

thinking i'm going to have to take a real close look at reed and carb boots. never know until i take a good look. may as well find the problem now than later.
