Did try a bit of searching but didn’t really find the info I was looking for.

So new Thread...

We are thinking of heading east to go for a ride with the kids and due to recent amounts of rain and the current fire ban in most of the north and west. But haven’t been out that way riding before.

We Would like to camp a night or 2 a do a bit of family riding.

Figure the iron horse trail might be a good option for the little small wheel bike to not have a mud hole neck deep every 10 feet and actually make some miles.

So looking for suggestions for places to camp and sections of trail to ride based closer to the west end of the trail system. Are their sections of trail that should be avoided?

You can camp right in St. Paul and access all three legs of the trail. The trestle at cold lake is pretty awesome. I heard they rebuilt it.

The cool part is you can drive right into each town legally. Restaurants, gas stations, stores. They have designated routes for ohv's.

It would be good to go on it after some rain. It was pretty dusty the few times i went on it. The section towards Heinsburg( i think, its where the Windsor salt plant is) was very scenic.

I guess we gotta get some covid masks for dust control!

Might head out to the lake this weekend and try to make it over to the Iron Horse. Been a few years.

From bonnyville to cold lake is truck rutted so firm hand on the tiller. The pipe crews are still working on it. The woops were kidney crushing closer to cold lake as of Sat.

Is iron horse atv rideable now or is it still sleds
I've been out of town for a week but I'd say its probably doable on a 4x4 quad or SxS. I wouldn't do it alone though, Most of the time there's nothing to winch to if you do get stuck. we had lots of snow this year so any shaded spots might be iffy depending how solid the snow is that day.
