The etecs had around double the intake area than the r motors, so I assume they don't need an aftermarket intake. I see slp was putting powder valves on there etec that started to work when the stock intake got plugged. They have a demo video on there site showing the operation.
Modifying an etec intake can lead to reduction in performance. There is no MAF in an etec. Allowing for more air without adding fuel can do more harm than good.
