So im 15, will be 16 in a few months. And the coverage my grandpa got for my sled, which is under his name. Says that the operator of the vehicle (sled) must be at least 16 years of age in order for coverage to take effect. Is this just mumbo jumbo, or is there is a stipulation, like 3 years of experience or something that would allow me to be covered? Were insured through johnson inc, and the only way i would ever be able to ride it would be on my grandpas farm, which would only be once a month, if im lucky. HELP!

Unfortunately most insurance only covers drivers 16 and up unless you're a learner and there is an experienced driver in the vehicle with you. I'm sure there are policies out there that would cover under age operators, but most insurance companies are going to toss in as many stipulations as possible to cover their butts. You should pm Andre on here and ask him what he does...I believe he's only 15.

Insurance companies won't insure someone under 16. Most areas now require you to have a drivers anyway on a sled. We just went through this with my brother in parkland county. I don't even know if it would be possible to insure someone that doesn't have a drivers licence. My vote would be if you are riding sensibly and not breaking any laws the cops would just let you go with no fine( my past experiences.) the only real problem i could foresee if you were to crash the sled then your grandfathers insurance would be void.

we went throughthis as well with our policy and kidsso we could ride the trails. you are covered as long as you are riding with an adult. they can be on another sled but have to be with you. this is what we were told anyways from our company. our kids are 12 and 14. one riding a 570 yamaha and the other a 340 artic cat.

At the co-operators they list your child under a seperate policy. My 7yr old has his quad and his new to him freestyle sled insured under me but his own policy. He is the primary operator. Hope that helps.

Because of the severity of a) lack of insurance when needed, and b) insurance fraud; I would check with your insurance agent prior to assuming that you're covered. Last thing you want to discover at the wrong time is that your insurance is voidable.
