If you look at the # of claims per turbo sled on the snow compared to the # of claims per $100,000 truck on the road, you might find out why sled insurance costs so much....... plus the turbo sleds usually get wrecked big time, not many fender benders in that world. What does it cost just for PLPD?

true. except that a collision payout for a vehicle could be over a million dollars.

but yeah if it was 3000$ a year full coverage i would be considering doing the repairs myself. 3000$ goes along way (depending LOL)

collision coverage only covers your vehicle...so unless your driving a 1,000,000$ ride your talking liability......in which case, kill someone with your sled....or kill someone with a car.....both can see million dollar damages.

mt g/f is a broker she will run some #'s for you guys if you want, give me an approx value of the machine, and she can see what the lowest is....

lying is not a good idea, should something happen, and yo take it in for repairs or god forbid hurt someone, as soon as the shop notifies them of the mods or an adjuster has a look........coverage terminated and your on your own.

I'm in the industry, you must provide full disclosure. Hiding something is bacially lying. You will be denied, your BI claim (liability) will be covered but they may come after you once that is settleted with a statement of claim. When insuring your sled get a stand alone policy as well. Then if something happens it does not affect your policy. I don't run collision but do run everything else. My sled is insured to the max of the Asa policy of 25000. But I had to get an appraisal first.

Hey, 240turbo

You ever checked to see what it cost to insure the sled just for PL PD and fire/theft? Maybe the collision is the big costing item. If you think you can afford to repair it yourself if you crash it yourself, maybe you could save a lot of money. Run collision free for 10 years and you are better off maybe without it. Your premiums will go up if you make collision claims too. I'm a firm believer in PL and PD because who can afford to pay for an injury/damages claim, but maybe don't buy other ins. if you don't think you need it.

Just a thought.

My interpretation is that buying a Yamaha is asking for financial punishment. First you have to spend a small fortune on lightweight parts/mods and then the turbo system. After all that you have to spend $1000's on insurance. And you still do not get the girls. LOL

I find this rather disturbing, 3000 per year for a turbo sled!!! I remember when I was 16 that what the insurance on my 95 dakota, and now 15 yrs later my 2 sleds, quad, truck and holiday trailer that have full coverage don't equal $3000 per year, This is robbery!!
I'm curious has anybody been denyed insurance on a 800cc turbo?
I WAS thinking a boosted sled would be in my future purchaces but spend 25000 approx on a sled and not be able to afford the insurance, I'm glad someone posted this thread because I never considered the insurance being that high.

I don't get this. Is 11% of the sled value to much to pay per year for full coverage in case something bad happens? That's only $233/month when you break it down. When your ridin a big buck machine like that, this would be pocket change just for the peace of mind.
Just my 2 cents.

I had to explain to my insurer that the turbo was not to make the machine faster, but to improve the deep snow performance and climbing ability by increasing the power and maintaining track speed. Top speed of the machine is dependent on gearing. They were OK with that, so far they have insured several machines but I haven't made any claims. I pay under $300 for PLPD fire & theft but I also have my home insurance, boat and a few other things with them. I recently had a discussion with them regarding insured value and ended up having to get an appraisal which was another $250

Sly,

That is what I explained to them. Zero tolerance for a turbo and that was there stand.
