did you always use your scratchers? I asked a couple of guys I ride with and they always use them and had no issues with the tracks. One person I asked only used them when the trail was icy and lost a lug or two. hope that helps.

And what would the scratchers do for the track?

Keep your clips cool?

C'mon.

Actually yes it keeps everything cooler.
Not sure how much of a difference it would make though but the faster you drive the more heat generated. I would say scratcher down for any 2.5 or 3" track on hard pack, motor hot or not. Scratchers will be down all the time on the Cat also.

I said it a long time ago (on that butt hurt Doo thread that whiners got pulled) that the piano string tight tracks for the 6 tooth drivers will eventually cause duribility issues.
Bearings will go sooner, tracks will heat and come apart sooner.
But for as tight as the tracks have to be run at, things are holding together well but we'll see what heat does in year three to the first year sleds - no warranty coverage by the way on wear items.

I ran with scratchers down on every trail because of how much rolling resistance there was in my G4.
You had to PULL it down the ramp of my deck. Would not roll, what does friction generate at higher speeds. Keep scratchers down.......not a cure but like vents to a wobbler it will help.

Tough choice Ron on thread topic.
Long life of the looser run 3" or improved performance of the 3.5"???
The harder you ABuse the G4 the more service required = 3".Just a cost for owning toys thingy.

Or get the other 3.5 pitch sled and abandon the bulk purchases of Tylenol.
lol

You will see longer life out of your sliders if you use the scratchers that is a know fact, I cannot see why not that would transfer that cooling to the track. I am picking up my 2019 X on Friday and will see what happens this winter. Either way good luck Ron with what ever direction (track) you go!!

so is there anything worth buying to replace a 2019 Gen4 165 3" lug slinger track. I'm in need of a new track as well but don't really want to spend $2000 on a new track every year.

If it was me, I would seriously give a the alpha track a try. Its. 3.5”pitch.
You technically have a 15w with the flex edge track.

I thought about that but didn't think it would fit due to the single row of windows down the middle and no clips for the sliders. Enlighten me.

Just looked at a pic and yep your right. FFS that sucks. I didn’t realize that rail was that narrow, oh well there goes that thought.

Why not just change drivers and go with the standard Cat 3 inch ?
They seem to stand up and a great track .
I'm pretty sure that requires a rail change as well. 162 not 165 like the alpha
I'm changing the driver's regardless of which track I end up with.

it wouldn't require a rail change so much as it would require machining to the cross members in the skid to make the rails sit in the 15 wide track slots

So your saying that one would have to bring the rails closer together? I thought that with the 16 wide it just meant more track on either side of the rail.(1/2" either side)

I saw the gen4 alpha sled that someone built. Wonder what they did for a driver/ shaft mod to run that setup. Push the driver's together, I doubt it. probably can't get them close enough. Probably custom drivers or shaft. Have to look at mine when I get home...Curious now.
