My computer is like me; it is old and slow!

I can purchase and install some GB's of ram that is supposed to speed things up....

or I can buy a new computer....

if I buy a new computer what are the problems of switching from a PC to a Mac? Thanks, fs

If its a really old computer the ram might be hard to find and very expensive

and you can only go to 3.2 gb of ram if its a 32 bit system windows won't recognize any thing higher

I would go with the new computer

as for the mac have not tried one but people say its easy to move to and you won't go back to pc once you have a Mac

I'll clarify a little more....it is 4 years old and Dell has the 4GB in stock. If I buy a 4GB it is $300 and I can buy 2 2GB for a total of $200. Thanks for your reply and I'm sure that more will reply this evening.....

my honest opinion is these days if you shop around and wait for a sale you can pick up a newer more updated comp, with better software and operating systems for not much more than you would pay for the upgrades to yours i think we paid around $500ish for mt gf's desk top with windows 7 and all the toys, 6 gigs of ram, 1 terabyte (1000gig) and all kinds of other goodies.

anytime i have added ram or things to an older comp i have found little difference in the overall performance.

and as for the mac thing, they cost quite a bit more but from what anyone has told me they are great and fairly easy to learn and once you get the hang of them very user friendly....

Windows by default is a self-destructing operating system. Temp files, log files, drive fragmentation, vulnerability to viruses and spyware etc. pretty much lends itself to built in obsolescence. You have a couple of options. If you have the original CD's you can back up the important stuff and completely reload the operating system as it is not you "computer" that is sluggish it is Windows in its elder years on your system. OR...you can buy a new windows platform and in 3 - 5 years do the same thing...not a great plan eh? The third option is a MAC...not going to try to sell you on it...not for everyone...but like crack...once you try it you are hooked...I'll never own a Windows box again. There is a learning curve...some do not like the transition...find it a pain in the azz relearning etc but it is so worth it. I do not pay for anti-virus software...don't need it...all the stuff you need to live is available for the MAC.

I bought a 15" Macbook Pro pretty much loaded...been a Windows user since its inception DONE!!!

Cheers...Todd.

Todd just saved me a whole lot of typing ... I agree with this post completely. I run both a Mac and PC . I use the PC to run most of my business off of just because I'm too lazy to reload all the software onto the mac and the pc laptop works good for all my business applications but thats IT. Once my pc laptop dies its all mac for me. I found the transition to a mac was very easy. Can't beat them for entertainment, video editing, pictures, internet ect. My mac has never froze or slowed in 3 years... turn it on and go and forget about all the security BS.

Most consumer desktop motherboards will not allow you to have more than 4gb, check the specs on your motherboard before you go buying RAM.
