can anyone tell me what this tunnel is off. the ser numbers come up as a 77 sonic (same as a rv) but Im still trying to figure out why it is a long track. it looks factory with all the rivets.
here is the front picture. but my question was the back part of the tunnel has a factory looking extention. it now has a 136 x 1 1/2 track. to my knowlage these sleds did not come with a long track so what is with the factory extention? or did some one do a really good job with solid (aircraft) riviets and brackets? even the cross county sticker is on the extention bracket. what was the stock track on a RV? 114? just confused on this tunnel? I know the bulk head is a sonic or RV and NOT a blizzard 7500 because the tube between the two skies is alum not steel. the SN comes up as a sonic. just the back is confussing me! Help does any one know the paint code for a 77 sonic orange?
Looks like they cut the tunnel at the running boards, then bent them up and riveted them back on.I did this to a old yamaha ss for more clearance in deeper snow.
I have tunneled alot of sleds but by the way this one is done it looks factory because every rivet is perfect and the brackets are perfect.plus the sticker goes over the extention. every time I did a tunnel I never went out and bought a new sticker to make it so perfect. so was there ever a sled built like this from the factory by ski-doo or moto-ski?
If you are looking for info on this sled/mods, try Bob @ Buck Lake,AB. They did alot of these up back in the day. They were a Moto Ski dealer & would explain the symetrical, factory look rivets. These sleds worked great with thier belly pan design as it allowed the front end to float quite well.
I have been doing alot of surfin on the web over this sled now. well have posted a thread on that doo.com in the vintage section and have got alot of replys. this could be the one factory tunnel that was built for a cross country racer. still trying to get his name but a few guys have heard of it and one guy has seen it in his day. most info is coming in from eastern canada but a bit from BC. sled is for sale so if interested make me an offer!
this is not a fake. this is the real deal. this tunnel is not cut, it is sheared and this couldnt be done in the form it is in. the tunnel had to be sheared before it was formed due to the radius in the corner. all the brackets have been stamped not cut. holes for rivets where not drilled but punched. and they used ski-doo solid hammer rivets not the bigger head ones used by boeing. this is not a back yard job but built in factory for a race team back in 77 ish. guys that say there was never a long track RV I beleived till I saw this and started asking. if you NEVER saw the color of the ski could you say it might not be blue? I have rattled a few guys with my find but a few have seen it and agreed it looks factory, cant fab that after it has been formed!
try larry at www.centerpointperformance.com ..this man has tons of experiance with all kinds of sleds..he will also be at the sled show..take him or send a pic to him
I always wanted an RV. I love the look of those. I thought you could special order the Cross Country version with a longer track? It wouldn't surprise me if that was a one off sled though either. What motor is in it? How much are you asking?
sled has a 521 which is not the stock one. it is the type 537 which is the good one ( aprox 100hp and around 400 pounds) it has 40 mm carbs and a single tuned pipe. oil injection removed but has small oil resivor for roatry valve. this sled pulls hard with the new track (136 x 1 1/2 inch). it has ski skins and a very mint (one off ???) long track tunnel. I can send pics if you want. just got the new throttle cable on a hour ago and going to install the new clutch shoes in the morning before I head up to edmonton to the sled show.
I had a guy want to trade me straight across for a fresh restored (finnishing as we speak) 76 250 sonic RV worth $2500 US, he pays shipping for mine but I dont want to pay out shipping for his, from new york! (bank says no lol).
I have had so many offers for long distance shipping accross the country but if someone local dropped $1500 in my hand its gone! it is on e-bay as we speak but I really dont want to crate it up and ship it. Im comming to edmonton sled show and going to bring it up to make a few grass drag runs on sunday. cant wait for the snow lol. any fast sled is worth $1500 and if it is a one off long track tunnel then you got a great deal. for $1500 buck you will be happy and I will be happy.
all it needs is a windsheild, hood repainted sonic orange, and a key switch (but runs with out it). very neat sled!
