Apple has determined that certain 1TB Seagate hard drives used in 21.5-inchand 27-inch iMac systems may fail. These systems were sold between October 2009 and July 2011.

Ahh this is a recall.. I thought this was an OS message alerting to a predictive failure.

Yeah, they probably want for a week as they have many, many to do. This is likely a pretty big recall.

That said, you should be able to schedule with the Genius Bar staff if you have apple care.

Just lost one of the mac's. Hard drive failed.
I have the other 3 in the shop being checked out now.

The dude I talked to on the floor at the Apple store at Market Mall wasn't very consumer oriented.

Is it hard to re-partition an external hard drive? Or should I just buy a new one and start over? It is 1 terra-byte if I remember correctly and it is not the Apple one but bought at the Apple Store.
