You will never be treated as a equal as long as your asking for special treatment or circumstances.

But because you are paid by the 'taxpayer' you are supposed to be so dedicated to your job that you willingly sacrifice your standard of living to pursue your career. That has changed for nurses and teachers in the past few years. (At least the ones smart enough to belong to a union).

My boyfriend and I were just shopping around in jasper today and we were in an aboriginal art store... Run by Australians who do receive their art from aboriginals across Canada, mainly the west coast and north... I truly love traditional aboriginal art, the masks, paintings, sculptures... All of it. Working in EMS and having gone into probably a thousand native family houses I have hardly seen any of this traditional aboriginal art which is one of their fights that us white people are trying to take the traditions away from them. I personally know I have more aboriginal art in my house than 90% of aboriginals. Something wrong here? There are more white people buying and treasuring this aboriginal art than the people's background it came from...

Oh ya I belong to a union, I don't do my job for the money (which isn't at all bad anymore not the way it used to be that's for sure) but if anyone had been watching the news lately seeing all the controversy with EMS and hospital wait times.. Hopefully it will only go up from here!

There comes a point where it doesn't matter what they pay you if there aren't enough of you to take care of the people the way you need to, or get the time off you need to take care of yourself.

So,if something "bad" happened to me when I was young,I can spent the rest of my life dealing with it?
C'mon,give me a break.
If I "f"up raising my kid's it's my fault not the governments. All of this blaming others for mistakes individuals
have made is BS.
The above quote about the healing time that is needed makes me want to slap someone.

Here's the fix, tell them all the reserves are gone, give them enough for a few months rent in the city, help them move and then bulldoze the reverses and sell the land off. I guess if they own it, give them a payout for it but I doubt it's the case most of the time. Now they would be equal, and no more crying about sub-standard housing. They can have the same housing as everyone else, if they are willing to keep a job to pay for it.

it is human nature to follow the path of least resistance - no matter the colour, race or religion. So, as long as the "hand outs" are made there will be no changes and in 100 years we will be still talking about the same. There are non-first nations who also like the hand outs and feel there is no need to better themselves and become self sufficient. The only difference is that they live amongst us and not secluded on a reserve.

If you guys all figure it is so great for them to get money handed to them and how they get a whole res to live on then I suggest you go try it for a week. I live very close to 3 large reserves and I can tell you I would never want to live the way they do. I will happily keep paying my taxes even though it sucks as long as I never have to live like that. O and one thing to remember all natives aren't the same so watch which brush you paint them with.

Ya why are you painting them all with the same brush to? Not all of them live poor or in poor conditions, many don't even live on the reserve and still get the money. And guess why a lot of them live in garbage houses, because they made them garbage! If it's hot in the summer, they smash a window or door, and complain when winter comes. To dahm bad.

Ya EVERYONE has a different story, but for the most part they live in poor conditions because of their own fault. Most reserves are pretty well off.

isnt that their choice to live there? I know I have friends that have had to move to better themselves so maybe they need to as well. Just my 2cents worth.

Sorry I guess I did paint them all the same. That being said the natives that live around the area where I live rich or poor basically live the same. I guess what I am trying to say is that in my opinion no matter what kind off native you are you are always labeled as a native before a person. Any way time to bail before this conversation really gets ugly.
