well it looks like Im taking the 530 back. the talk button wont work.. 3 hr of driving to take back. arent these things checked before they box them?

Are you sure you have it set at the right channel and sub channel??
If you want to transfer to another GPS you would have to transfer to a PC then transfer to the next GPS or plug your card into a PC card slot then do the transfer I think. I do mine on Map Source Topo map, I save all my trips then when I go back to an area I reload from Map source topo maps.

We use Garmin rhino's. Radios and the ability to poll your buddies, so you can find them.
Out with son this week. He had to run to Valemount to weld the steering mount (thanks to Valemount NAPA!). Returned to Allen Creek, polled out location and tracked us down with no fuss at all. Proved worth for sure. Use quadding etc also. Load maps from laptop etc. we have 540's (I think) had for 3 yrs now, battery good for 2 days continous use. Awesome as far as I'm concerned! Have Ram mounts on sleds, quads, truck, bike. Best for off road though, no good for city navigation, there are better units available (like I Phone) for that. Robust, waterproof, great battery life. Look for newest generation.

So far I think the Rhino is the only one that lets you track your buddies, as long as they have one too. My problem with the Rhino's is that they don't seem to handle high humidity (inside coat) very well, and after only 1 season the radio starts to degrade to the point where you can't make out what is being said. For your sled recovery business though, since you will be using it to get to a set of coordinates, whichever one you get familiar with will do. I have the garmin 60csx, and love it. As for the radio part, I don't think any of them stand up really well, so I buy a 3 pack of Motorolas at Costco for 60 bucks, and toss em as they start to screw up.
