Last year I brought one of our work trucks in for repair as it died going down the road after the voltage started dropping rapidly. I knew right away it was the alternator. Took it in, told them to replace the alternator it's most likely the cause. I get a phone call the next morning. Trucks fixed just needed a new battery. I said are you Fawkin kidding me? A vehicle will run without a battery with a working alternator!! So why did it die? Not sure but it's good now. When I got there I said back it outside and stand here with me while we watch the battery drain together. Sure enough ten min later no voltage truck off. Idiots

Last summer my powersteering was fawked, truck had 37" mud tires so trying to turn that with no powersteering sucked, took it into spruce grove ford dealer and told them the power steering wasn't working and made awful grinding noises, they took it for a test drive and said it was fine just the mud tires I have making it hard to turn, so I had to get the service manager and he had enough brains to know it was the power steering pump.

One of our work trucks, 2011 ford 6.7 started making a knock so took it into the fort Mac dealer and they said that cause of the cold air intake it took out the engine by letting in water. The truck was still under warranty but they wouldn't cover it cause apparently it was water damage. Once we got the bill for the brand new engine looked it over and they charged 900$ for mud removal, truck was still absolutely filthy underneath and on the body, so got service manager and he said it was to scrape away the mud off the bolts to get the cab off. What a joke

Not defending the dealer service department, as I haven’t found a dealer service department in North America that I would trust....(we have close to 1000 trucks scattered onboth sides of the border)

But when we brought back 150 trucks from a project in the Fort McMurry area, we started cleaning them, we found on average they had about 1,000 lbs of Mud packed inplaces that were extremely hard to get at. We eventually brought in a steamtruck to blast the @#$% off. It was a costly venture, had to have our sumps cleaned out at the end of everyday, while the cleaning was taking place. We had already seen transmissions and diff’s failing from vents being plugged.

That there is somesticky ass mud.....

The call...OK, not really....I had to call them OF COURSE:

"The technician said he can not find any evidence of a leak. He checked, bla, bla, bla, bla.........."

"So why is the coolant low...AGAIN? You and surely your tech understand that in order for it to leak, it doesn't necessarily end up on the ground or in the cab, right? You know what a head gasket does? Never mind....send the guy to pick me up, I will talk to the service manager".

Last time I took my car in service writer talked me into a power steering flush. I pick it up and the total price is way less than I was expecting. Get home check bill, shows tech's note: power steering flush not performed because car has electric steering.

Are service writers really this dumb?

Kipp Scott GM: my 2010 GM 1/2 ton. Problem: I have a suspicion that the 5.3 is a bit noisier than it needs to be on cold start-ups. (my 06 was the same and never changed in 270,000km...but) I figure I better at least get it on paper before the warranty goes out that I think it's rattly. Anyways, I drop it off the night before, get rides both ways, then a ride to work the next day. I get a call from the service writer that she brought the truck in, then the tech couldn't find a noise. WHAAAA? I say, "so I go through the trouble of telling you EXACTLY what it's doing, THEN I get rides all over the country so I can drop it off and you can have it cold. THEN you fire it up first thing and bring it inside for the tech to work on it?"
She now realizes she's been an idiot, so asks, "can you leave it over night tonight?"
Yes...I lost my $h!t. I get a ride down, service manager involved, etc ,etc. In the end, nothing done, engine is fine according to them.

Gord Scott Nissan: wife's 2011 Murano. Problem: been losing coolant and you can smell antifreeze since vehicle was new. Level in overflow bottle drops a couple inches every oil change. Last time I dropped it off (last summer) was the THIRD time in for this issue. And the THIRD time they said they checked it and can't find a problem. I get the runarround story about how the level in the bottle goes up and down with temperature, they pressured it up and can't find anything, bla, bla, bla. I point out the pink felt-pen line THEY drew on the hot-full level and how it now (hot) is 2" below that line. Anyways...get service manager involved, and he seems pretty understanding and sympathetic, but nothing done. Drop it off today for same issue...booked in 3 weeks ago...strong smell of AF, and level is down again. Service writer "prepares me" for the news that "they will check it, but if they find anything you will have to re-book it in".......
I ask her if she bothered to look up the 3 previous work orders...? I get my ride to work. This afternoon, I will be losing my $h!t....

Kipp Scott what a waste of red deer space, my truck was in there pos shop 14 times the first year I had it for repeating issues finally freaked on them one day inside (and I am on there no service list now lol, but they still send me junk in the mail)

I'll chip in here too. So last year, I brought my Silverado to the only GM dealer in the territory, for a recall on the transmission dip stick or something. Also, I had this nagging issue with a taillight. It would function as a brake light, turn signal, but not as a running light. Bulbs didn't fix it. I specifically mentioned this to them, and assured 'yeah we'll take care of it'. I made an appointment and picked it up later.

So I pick it up and I ask 'did you guys figure out the light'? 'Yeah should be taken care of!'. He hands me this LOVELY pencil whipped list of all the stuff they checked off. Yup, lights are functioning, working good? Check!

So we go out to the truck, do you think they fixed it? Nope. I don't think they even looked at it. So i question the guy on his 'inspection sheet' that is littered with check marks. I pose this to him; 'How I am supposed to be believe that any of this stuff was done, because clearly, the tails weren't checked at all, but yet, they are given the big a-ok on this list'. He didn't have too much to say and says, 'well you'll have to come back'. I didn't want to but made another appointment to deal with it.

I went back the next day, drop off the truck outside after the same guy tells me, they are going to deal with it right away. My truck sat in the same spot for half an hour before it moved. Some cheesey sales guy tries to sell me the same truck I am driving with a corny sales pitch....problem being, its an extended cab with cloth and some bigger tires. 55k!

So another hour goes by. The service guy says yup, should be all good now! I don't pay for this as I already did the previous day. I drive down the road. First turn, I get the really fast blinker indictator. I go right back to Chevy. Now NOTHING works on this light. No brake, signal anything. WORSE than what I started with.

I go back and basically lose it on this guy, and what a complete waste of time this has been. He says "well the tech says that the harness was screwed, and we don't have any in stock'. 'Sometimes when they are poking around with electronics, things happen. Not much I can do'.

So after a whole lot of complaining, he says well, the harness will take two weeks to get here. I say not good enough. I kind of sarcastically said to him, 'Where do you think we could find a harness for a half ton silverado, perhaps on one of these trucks on the lot, and then YOU can wait for the part'. It was a real light bulb moment for this guy and my super complicated solution fixed the problem.

People should really not have much faith in the 'big dealers'. A lot of the time filled with jokers for staff!

Problem with that is would u buy a new truck knowing it's been a parts lender

Plus what happens if someone wants to buy it in that 2 weeks??? Oh can't sell it cause it's missing parts

That don't go over well

sent while I should be drinking tea's

I filed that under 'not my problem' lol. They caused me enough run around I figured I could share the wealth.

The must still have the special "Test Run Coolant" installed, like the special "Test Run Oil" it magically disappears upon contact with the atmosphere. See it all the time on new equipment.

Don't sweat the piston slap on the truck, be surprised if it didn't do it with their one size fits none pistons.

It would be great, if we could have a few car/truck Dealerships here on the site...... My Ford has been at City Ford Edm, Red Deer Ford, and Macklin Ford here in Calgary. I have nothing nice to say about any of them....

Our company has 28 trucks on the road daily, and we have given up on dealerships. Unless it's a factory recall, other than that it goes to the other guy.

I took my ecoboost into the dealership in the grove for the fourth time on the same issue. Before I went in, I told them I wanted ALL the coils and plugs changed, since it was starting to sputter and fart again. Dropped the truck off in the morning, told the service writer the same thing that I said when I booked it in, he said that they would have their tech look into it. I told him no, I want all the coils and plugs changed, since I know that this will fix the problem ( it was in for this late last fall, they changed 3 plugs and coils , smartened it right up) . It's off warranty now, so no sense dicking around with changing one or two, getter all done at once. Picked it up, and he tells me that they changed 4 plugs and coils and boots. I asked him if I had a four cylinder, because I could have sworn that I said change them all....makes a fellow wonder for sure

I agree completely! However in their defence they do have a lot to keep on top of, but that is also the job. So if u can't do it get out of it. Half of the problem is that they are not mechanics, and don't usually seem to care to learn. I hate using them but I work too many hours to do very much of my own work. If I get told somthing will be done and it's not, the manager hears about it.

Took mine in to the ford dealer on glenmore trail :) for the $59.95 oil change and tire rotation special. When I pick it up I ask the service writer if they rotated the tires because I'm leaving town on a long trip pulling a trailer. He looks at the report and says yes they did and showed me how much tread was left on tires. Problem was I had started cleaning my rims the day before and only got the rears done. Guess what the nice shiny rims were still on the rear?? I called the guy out and explained it to him. He gets the tech who basically calls me a liar. It gets a little heated with the service writer keeping us apart. Lol
Now the fun begins lol I took pictures of the rims because they looked so good clean and the pictures were date stamped....... the day before. Hmmmm
I must have been mistaken the tech says........ Lol

Same place that told me that when my change oil icon was on after being parked for four months and having a total of 800k since the last oil change that...... Well oil can lose its viscosity from sitting and it needs to be changed to maintain my warranty.... WTF. I said so my oil is like milk and it has an expiry date??
I then asked him if they rotate their oil at the dealership so I can be sure I have the freshest oil .... Lol silence.
Give me the bottle in the back please ROFLMAO

I guess I am the only one who has had absolutely astounding warranty service with my last 3 trucks.

I have been using Waterloo Ford for 12 years and never, ever had any warranty claims questioned. Anywhere from leaking difs, to seat leather imperfections, to paint imperfections, to small spots of tarnish on my running boards.. ALL covered.... and I didn't even buy new from them. Guess I am lucky.

who was the service writer

I can't find the paper. It was two years ago for the tires and last spring for the oil. The oil question I phoned in to the service dept. as I wanted to turn the change oil light off.
Same dealer that replaced my upper ball joint and forgot to tighten up the sway bar. Laying in the dirt on the side of the road to tighten it back up. They did try to make that one right as they came right to my house with the service manager and a tech to put a new bushing on it and re torque it.

You guys ever hear of a points system that the dealership gets from the manufacturer. Not sure how it works but has to do with the less warranty work they do the more money they get. Apparently if they do too much warranty work they loose money. I know Dodge has it but not sue about the others.
