Way more to be gained in clutching than a belt drive...

And half the cost. Belt drives aren't what there all cut out to be.

Assuming the clutching is way off to start with. Some brands are better than others. Also other brands don't start with great gearing so when you add a belt drive and change gearing at the same time the gains can be huge. Just not the same for all.

I agree. I did a belt drive before, and other than the cool factor and simple ratio changes. I didn’t see the gain for the price. Especially the gate belts. My buddy and i had the exact same sleds and pushing a cold sled off the deck was a chore over a the same sled with a chain.

The lightweight doo bottom gear definitely is better than the older heavier ones.

A tight track completely hides the "roll off the deck" feel of a belt drive. I had a Polaris with quickdrive and switched it out fro a TKI. Then the sled needed the parking brake applied on every slight grade.

It was not the track. As Dragonweld just mentioned the other 163 had 2.68 ratio and I had 2.52.

The gates carbon is a tough belt but its super stiff when its cold.

Once Dragonweld gets used to that lay down steering post he will enjoy the sled until he hops on the Monster Yammie with the same steering and ride it like a 2 bit whore, performance and handling with a slight turbo whine, orgasmic I say! Maybe a Yammie next?

Kanedog 2015-2019, thanks for the good times S&M!
Correct, Gearing changes make a big difference. Not a belt drive
Are you putting a belt drive on the G4? Cuz if you are, you could try this custom made 22tooth top gear at the tuning tent this year.

Lots of the same experience with the guys I have spoken with. After taking the Pdrive apart and weighing everything, i know that there can be some significant improvements. The quick clicker set up is so heavy.. .like 86 grams heavy. And the primary spring, depending on year and track length can be anywhere from a 170-350 to a 200-400. Pretty stiff spring to overcome.

The gearing is great at 21-53. So the goal here is making this set up more efficient. The first thing to go is the quick clicker set up.... I think its kind of dumb anyways. If the sled was clutched right you wouldn't need to adjust it. Now just need some snow to test in.

Keep the clicker setup if you haven't experimented with it. Interesting to play with the belt force on the primary prior to it shifting. Can make the machine feel quite a bit different, espe ially if you can add clutch weight as you move clicker position up. Not saying that is right or wrong, but it can help in fine tuning. Have fun...

Best tools you can buy are from C&T IMO...

Got out for a ride yesterday. Pretty decent snow for November 10th. Got lucky a few times, bounce off a few rocks. But luckily it was right in the middle of the track. Took all of 20 minutes and felt right at hime on that Gen 4 chassis. Some immediate things i noticed. The front end darts all over the place up the trail, was almost scared to go fast. The shocks are even worse that the standard walker evans that come on the Axys. The rear suspension does handle whoops very well. Actual mountain riding, I found the Gen 4 easier to ride than my axys but isn't as precise. Power is really good... the bottom and mid range is super strong. Still need to tweek a few things to get the top end where I know it can be. Here's a quick video. Cheers,
