I know, should have bought a spring order, but finances didn’t warrant it back then. Never bought a new sled, just used from guys, or demo from dealer. If you are going to go in and try to buy this years model, at this time of year do you have any bargaining power at all? Or am I SOL and going to be paying list?

I think you have WAY more bargaining power in this position. I have never actually snowchecked a sled because of this. Dealers are required to order a certain number of units a year. Sometimes they sell them.....sometimes they sit on them for a long time. Ive found if you shop around you can get some pretty wicked deals on in season units.

I got a really good deal on a 2 year old demo sled with full warranty. If you're a Polaris guy, Cycleworks in Acheson was awesome the deal with

Pretty much any brand is in play, if Polaris then 2017 would be fine, BRP might only want a current year to make sure I have all the upgrades, AC would have to be 2018 as I definitely what the new body work and motor. Same for Yamaha, would want a sidewinder with the new body work.

Is it it better to walk into the dealer, or same if I phone and talk to them? Obviously fewer options to deal in person since I am not going to drive all over Alberta to talk, but I might to pickup a sled if I can get a good enough deal.

Working in a shop coming in is always better, it show that you are a little more dedicated than a guy bored on his lunch break calling every shop "just for some info".
one thing to take into account is how you value your time. if you can get the OTD price 400 bucks cheaper but need to drive 7 hours round trip is that 400 really worth it after gas and a whole day of driving?

Wouldnt drive 7 hours for 400, but definitely would for a grand.
