Thought I would bring this old thread back to the top for those that have not seen this ... importance of wearing the tether, or starting sleds with brake applied....

I seen this happen on a new polaris, lucky it tipped over on a hill who knows what would have happened if it kept going.

Something similar happen to my middle brother [nineteen at the time]. Throttle froze wide open on his early eighties Ski Doo 340 Free Air coming back to the cottage on a trip with friends.
He panicked, didn't bail in time and he hit the dock, sled ricochet off the rock cut ... folded one ski up to the hood, broke part of the hood and he broke his femur [left leg].
Dragged the sled home and through it beside the house for a couple of weeks... had a warm spell in the weather.
Youngest brother figured everything had thawed out and was going to put it in the shed to start repairs [middle brother in a full leg cast].
Pulled it once and it took off through the gate and through the double doors into he shed...doors were closed lol, split both doors in half and hit the cement wall at the back of the shed.
Folded the second ski worse than the first, caved in the front end, pipe and completely blew the hood apart. Didn't see snow 'til the next winter.

Ok once is bad enough but two times in a row? Lack of common sense sounds like the culprit and not stuck throttle.

One sled for sale, slightly used.

always kept indoors. Lmao. :cool::cool:

but seriously that’s hilarious and scary as **** all at once! I can’t even begin to imagine what that was like for the home owner, just sitting at home minding your own business, sipping on some tea, contemplating weather you should have grilled cheese or a pizza pocket for lunch....... and then your world explodes into absolute chaos and mass confusion!! How bloody loud that must have been !!!:beer:

I remember when I first read this thread. Its a good reminder to check your flipper to see if its stuck. So many sleds do not have a tether and many people do not use them. Mine tore the loop off of my jacket once. Motorfist repaired it for free. I usually put it around my wrist now.

I put my tether on my wrist for awhile too, but I seen a video of chris Burandt saying he quit wearing it on his wrist because one time it wrapped around the bars and attempted to remove his arm....probably odds are not likely that would happen but it certainly could! I got in the habit now to leave it attached to the loop on my suit all the time. But in all honesty I don’t usually wear my tether just to quickly fire it up in my shop. Although I don't think that can happen on my Etec. If it starts with throttle open it just sits there beeping at you.

Yeah, I guess that could happen.
