Just wondering why you guys are saying that you never hold a mountain sled wide open when you're riding around home?

Depending on the setup, some sleds can run lean at lower elevation and if you're clutched for only up high you also run the risk of over revving... Add the two up and you're holding a grenade with the pin out! Regardless is not exactly great to hold any two stroke WFO for too long, I blew up my Jetski doing that when it was new to me... But then again almost any two stroke motor leans out a bit in the mid range therefore it's not good to hold a throttle position too long.

I ride about 50-50. Sled (800 e-tec summit with 154) is completely stock as I am hopeful that will provide the best reliability. I typically do not hold the throttle open for long as it tends to scare the sh** out of me as things come up pretty fast. Also easy to break stuff at high speed. As far as worrying about the hi-fax etc. - I consider that sort of stuff to be like tires on my truck. They will wear out and I will deal with that then. Can't imagine not riding just because I couldn't make it to the mountains.

I am the same. I get out most weekends around home, but that is just to scratch the itch. My heart lies in the mountain riding. This is why I snow checked a summit 154 this year. I am leaving it stock and clicking it down to 1 to ride in the prairies. I nearly never run WOT, and speed is not an issue to me. I prefer to ride slower in case of hidden obstacles (i have hit a few in the past). Even when I am trail riding with buddies, I am ussually riding in the soft stuff beside the trail so this is why I chose to adapt a mountain sled to prairies rather than a prairie sled to the mountains. I always keep an eye on RPM's rather than Speed even with my Renegade.
