I have a 7 foot deck with a 163! I'm good to go! if you search this you might find 1000 treads on this......4 feet from the tail lights I think!

Rowdy just called the dot & posted this info. BC is 1.2M(3' 11"), AB is 1.5M(4' 11") This is from tail lights to the farthest point of back end of the sled.

there isn't a law to my knowledge for how much of the sled needs to be supported if that is what you are wondering, but there is for distance from your tail lights before additional lights must be used.

and according to the other "huge" thread about this .. it has to be from your vehicles tail lights, not the market lights on your deck.
I'm going to buy one of those bicycle red blinky tail lights and put it on the sled bumper for driving at night. I think the rule is that the red light needs to be seen from 4 meters or something like that...

is that blinking red bicycle light DOT approved? I could see some cop picking at anything he can!

well, I'm not about to go trade in my truck for a long box ... i think as long as there's a light at the furthest point of your load (i.e. the sled) that is red and visible from a certain distance it's acceptable.

Or if you buy lumber from home depot and put a red flag on the back, same idea .. are those red flags DOT approved ?

or you could install hydraulic rams behind your tail lights and press a button to make them extend out to within 1.5m of your sled... sweeeeeeeet
