Out riding in Fernie on the weekend. Was about - 22 when we started the day, warmed up to - 15. Sun was shining, but wow was the trail cold. Somehow got frostbite on the tops of my ears, inside my helmet and under a balaclava.

Sent from a Galaxy S3 far far away.

I taped off my vents on my 509 because it seemed to have to much draft in the cold. I just pulled the liner out and started covering the holes, made the halmet feel so much better.

My Motorfist Dominator is much colder than my 509 Evolution. The 509 is a warm helmet and the 509 goggles fit in tight with no skin showing. Speaking of the trail being cold, there are some spots where the cold air just hangs around and sits. It can be brutal sometimes and as a groomer operator I see it in the snow conditions on the trail.

Rode valemount this weekend, -30 both mornings according to the truck thermometer. bundled up and had a good two days of riding. Coldest part was face going up and down the trail, other than that stayed warm, definitely warmed up during the day though with a bright sunny day

Back when I was racing snocross, I think it was January '03 and it was -43 on the thermometer in the truck when I went out to start it in the morning in Wainwright. Got out to the track, and I had a Honda generator that was the easiest thing in the world to start. Until that day, anyway. Ended up dragging it over to the next trailer over who had a sunflower propane heater. Got the genny warm enough it would start, because my sled wouldn't. VP C-12 does not like to fire when it's that cold. Finally got the heat on in the trailer and sled warmed up enough it would run. Head out on the track for practice, made one lap and said, "f this crap." Every time you landed, it felt like something was going to break and was making some evil sounds. Went back and sat in the truck and didn't emerge until I had to go stage. I think it warmed up to a balmy -29 by then.

Rode Silent and Quartz on Sat. and Sun. Truck read -27 and -25 respectively and the trail was chilly both days. In the sun on the hills. actually warm. One of the group asked if it was melting on Sat. On Sun. helped out a guy stuck at the top of the hill with no snow and walked through soft, mucky dirt to get to him.
I guess what I'm saying is that sunshine in Feb can make a big difference between the actual temperature and conditions on the hill.

-30 is the cut off for me. Can't even tell when your riding but in the way down the trail it gets cold quick!

It doesnt matter for me. I went a few weeks ago, it was -40c when we hopped on the sleds. make over 100km that day, and had an absolute blast. I dont care how cold it is, just have to layer accordingly. -40 c and sweating. had to lose a layer at about 15 km, because I was getting too hot. The sled runs better when it's cold anyways. lol. -35 is just a number that weeds out the weak.
